Anyone from Essex?

Is anyone else from Essex?

Not long started up my own Graphic Design company from home. I'm in the middle of nowhere in Essex. Gorgeous though.... and there is a pub within walking distance:D!!

Keeping busy though freelancing for a few companies and hoping to find more clients.

Enjoy the weekend!!

Julie

Hi Everyone

So nice to hear from you all. Didn't know so many from Essex were on this forum!!

Sorry to hear Dee there are no pubs near you.

This forum is really good for getting and giving advice. It is difficult sometimes to know what to do about a job and also good to be able to help out someone else...

How does a get-together sound? I've heard other forums do it and it's even better to meet up face to face and exchange ideas etc. We could meet up either for a drink at lunchtime or evening in Chelmsford. Any takers?? We can sort out a date when I know who's interested. Just msg me.

I hope to hear from you soon.

Keep posting....

I'm good for a meeting but I don't know Chelmsford so I'll need directions if we meet there. If we want to make it a social evening, there is an Italian restaurant here in Westcliff where I work a lot - nothing fancy just good food cooked to order so don't expect to get a three course meal in 10 minutes like some customers do!

I'm in Vange.

For those of you without a clue, it's on the edge of Basildon.

A fellow Northern Irelander, where abouts are you from Sam? Portadown was and I guess still is my home town, before moving to Essex.

I am up for getting together, Chelmsford sounds fine as does any of the food outlets at the Boardwalk at Lakesdie which I am sure everyone knows.

Hope you meet you all soon, great idea Julie

I've used mapservices before for a few things - so just created an "essex ukbf" account.
It can be found here

Obviously there is no need to put the marker exactly where you live, but if everyone could keep it as local as possible, we can see where the majority of us are - it may help to find a 'local' spot to meet?

Obviously when adding a 'pin' I put my name in the name field, but my company name in the "message" field - so we can see who is where :)

Hi there,

Just came across this website and slowly trying to get myself up to speed with how to navigate my way around.

Came across your interesting thread where it would appear everyone wants the same informal networking opportunity.

We have 2 free meetings planned in the coming month based at Gastro 1603 restaurant in Colchester this Friday 7th at wait for it... 16:03

On the 27th November we have our introduction to the Havering/Brentwood area, held at Warley Park GC from 16:30.

We have been established for over 2 years in the Colchester area and we really love working with all manner of businesses/people.

We are currently re-branding and the new website is under construction but please take a look at our current website at businessuncovered.com

Matt

Welcome Julie, to a nice, but challenging forum, where there are a host of professionals in most fields of business, that can be of tremendous help to new starters. I'm up for a meet in Chelmsford, being just down the A130 in Rayleigh. Perhaps the nearest Witherspoons could be suitable, as they are normally bigger than yer average pub, and don't cost an arm and a leg.
Perhaps (for the meet up), we should all stick UKBF on our foreheads, or somewhere, to break the ice, or purely for identification

Hi Julie. You be careful of these young romeos on here. I mean and offer of an Itailian or Weatherspoons in a couple of posts. Seriously. I am from Romford and will soon be moving into the Regus Business Centre at Brentwood where it seems the manager himself is quite keen on business/social networking and holds a gig once every month or so.

Apparently they are well attended with a wide variety of business folk and while the business centre itself is quite plush the guys I have met already are really down to earth. What's more it's free with free beverages.

If you or anyone else from Essex would like to come along to the next one let me know and I'll have a word with the manager. Rob

PS. Our Faith seems to be getting posh. Since when has Ilford been twix Woodford Green and Barkingside. It's to the west near to East Ham real gangster territory where the Krays came from.

I remember seeing The Everly Bros WITH MY WIFE @ The Brentwood Centre, probably not the same building, but a clue to how far yr reverse ageism comment may be off the mark :)

Also, there is nothing really free in this world, unless you count the air we breath.

Still prefer Chelmsford for ease of access by own transport, train or bus.

DickM. The 'young remeo' bit was a JOKE although I have to say that seeing 5 bouncers on the door of most Weatherspoons on a weekend I thought that only young larger louts drank there. You stick to the White Horse in Rayleigh my friend - that is if Mel still owns it.

Also - your comment that nothing in life is free. I am afraid you got that wrong. Whats with council tax and utility bills etc it cost us all about £20 a day before we get up in the morning and take in the fresh air. The beverages at Regus are however free but no Everley Bros I am afraid. Shame. 'Walk Right Back' was one of the first records i ever bought and they don't make em like that anymore.

Anyway Julie. Sorry didn't mean to hijack your thread. Just thought that Brentwood was basically in the middle of where we all are. Rob

I know it was "a joke", but it may have been mis-construed by others.
So, is the Brentwood venue "totally free" ?
and BTW, Mel Batty has long gone after running the Spread as well.
From what I hear, he was not "pulling up trees" b4 this recession set in:(
If you want anymore news of Rayleigh's comings and goings, feel free to PM me.

Im also a graphic designer (more webdesign actually, but it helps if you can play nice with the Adobe suite ;) ) and I also live/work in Essex.
I cant be sure but I dont think I work a million miles away from DuaneJackson, in Basildon.. I work quite close the PMS building just off the A127..

But anyway, how is the freelancing going? Currently I do it in my spare time, after my day job, so I havent really put myself out there in terms of advertising.

How are you finding it?

Quite close! You said in another thread that you drive past The Bull, a bit further down the road towards Vange/Basildon you pass a roundabout that some people call "the Pitsea roundabout", but it should be called "the KashFlow roundabout" : ) My office overlooks that

Ah right, I call the roundabout with the big Tescos next to it the Pitsea roundabout. That the one?
That's it. I'm campaigning for a local by-law to make it illegal to call it anything other than "the KashFlow roundabout". So correct your ways now and avoid prosecution later!

Am I also to understand that you have worked with Atlas in Southend? One of my good pals is a Tea Boy there ;)
That bunch of cowboys? Never! : )
Yep, done lots with the guys at Atlas - was out with the main man the other evening.

Actually.. Does that roundabout have a sign on it that says KashFlow? I think it has indeed been subliminally planted in my cranium as the KashFlow roundabout!

Just read your article on Business Cards. You're gonna hate mine!
All graphic design and squiggles!

While I understand where you are coming from with the article, I also feel its important to stand out from the crowd. I dont think they should all look the same.
