Anyone else waiting for customs clearance?

Just wondered if anyone else is in the same boat? I've got a parcel 'awaiting customs clearance' since 15/05. I've phoned customs and they've told me there's a backlog and it should be inspected soon.

Has anyone else had this issue lately? How long did it take you to receive your item? It takes the pee really!

When it comes to customs clearance, forget about time

I worked in Export and Import (in Egypt) for more than 5 years and each cargo whether containers or Less, has its own condition and its own clearance time

depends on which criteria ? dont know-May be (mood - traffic at port - kind of commodity) god knows

Customs clearance hell is all I can describe it as.

I have parcels that they seem to love and don't want to let go of. So far longest seems to be about 2.5 weeks.

There seems to be no rhyme or reason as to how they treat parcels, we get them through without charge when they should get one, we get them with charges, we get them slowly, we get them quickly, we get asked for all sorts of additonal paperwork on occasions that appears totally irrelevant. You name it we've had it.

All I can say is I reckon they have a list of companies, stick a pin it and say "that's the one to give hell to today or for this week" and they do.

You basically have to wait for them to trundle through their procedures be it fast or slow, nothing will shift them to go any quicker.

Hello everyone,

plymgary, just wondering whether they have finally managed to process your parcel or you are still waiting for it?

I've got the same 'awaiting custom clearance' status for my parcel since 20/05. Interestingly, of the two parcels that had been sent to me on the same date from the United States, the one that was sent by air has arrived more than two weeks ago, and the second one that was traveling by sea is still at the customs. So the backlogs are apparently taking place, but only at certain customs departments.

It's really really slow at the moment. I've had one delivered today which had been in the UK since the 12th May and another one despatched at the same time hasn't arrived yet. Ans we have an account for the charges which is quicker than waiting for the letter.

They must be busy though because I've had three this week which came through without charges - they must have just let them through because of the backlog.

6 consignments of hot tubs made in China were impounded by UK HRM Customs & Excise in April. This can only be good news as reports are they are copies of leading USA brands heading for ebay and have suspect plumbing and electrics.

Having witnessed the poisonous effects of an electrical fire in a Chinese tub long may they never clear customs.

That is scary.
