Hi! our company wants to expand into selling on Amazon and Walmart under the category of women clothing. Do you think it's a good opportunity to start selling here? We have been doing only B2B for a while now and looking for new opportunities. If you have success in selling clothing on these platforms, what are some of your recommendations (such as how to do advertising, should we do Fulfillment by Amazon, etc.)? As well as the pros and cons of using these marketplace.

Thank you so much!

You might find that certain products do better on Amazon than others, or you there's better margins with smaller products, but the best way to use platforms like Amazon is to use their FBA to improve margins generally. There's some good resources on their website that can help with figuring out if it's the right fit for you.

Not sure a UK business forum will be of much use to you. You are better off asking the question on USA business sites as selling on Walmart isn't something we do in the UK. As to Amazon, you will need to decide what is best for your business. Fulfillment may work for you or you could supply direct. Get an account set up on Amazon and research all the options.

Sorry if this answer is a bit vague but transitioning from wholesaler to B2C is going to be a long and probably costly process. And I suspect done differently in the USA to the UK. Sourcing local help will be more beneficial to you.

Thank you for your recommendation! I was hesitating because of the hefty fee for FBA. But now not many customer will buy without prime day shipping. Will definitely explore more about it!

Thanks for your advice! We also have some retailers from UK that buy from us. That's why we trying to see if we can sell directly to customer here too! Might just try B2C for a few months with FBA and see how it's going

Hi! So we basically design women clothing in the house and send those designs to be made in Asia for cheaper price. Then when the cloth arrives, we sold it on our website as well as B2B marketplace. Our cloth cost around 6 USD to 10 USD per piece on average, and you must buy them in pack of 2 small, 2 medium, 2 large. Here is our website if everyone to take a look at: shopirisbasic.com

We've been doing pretty well with B2B and wants to improve our profit by selling directly to customer. Going to test the water first with Amazon FBA and see how it's going from here!

I can see you use OpenCart which is a great platform but this website is incredibly slow so take a look to see if it's suffering from any of these issues: https://www.antropy.co.uk/blog/speed-up-opencart-fix-speed-issues/

We've been doing pretty well with B2B and wants to improve our profit by selling directly to customer.
Consider building another OpenCart site, or even a sub-store that is for the public - but make sure it's faster than your current one.

Given our experience with B2B, what are the key strategies we should focus on to successfully transition to selling directly to customers through Amazon FBA?

FBA is irrelevant. It is a distribution method.

Sell the product on its merits.

I would normally say yes but Amazon is brutal for clothing/shoes. People tend to return a lot of fashion purchases when buying on line (they often buy the one they think they will fit into + one bigger and one smaller, then send 2 back). Since Amazon makes it so easy to return stuff, the return rates are around 60% and you are responsible for paying the return costs. Then what do you do with the return? Do you let Amazon put it back into inventory, which may involve repackaging. Or do you get it sent back to you first and then send it back in (so now you have 3 shipping costs).

It's a real minefield and unless you are used to all these extra costs associated with online selling, it can be a horrible learning curve. Often businesses that are set up with a brick/mortar model can't transition. If however you already have lots of experience of online sales in that niche, then it might be worth a Zoom call.
