Advice on laptop and dual screen set up please

I am starting a new business and what I am used to is a PC set up with dual screen however going self employed as a consultant I believe having the ability to work on the move will occur (not often but will be handy) therefore I am thinking laptop with dual screen set up so when Im working from my office I can plug the laptop in and have the benefit of working with nice big screens.

However I am not IT trained and I need advice on whats the best laptop to go for, how it connects to the screens, keyboard, mouse etc.... I need someone who knows about all of this and can list what I need. I am finding that some places see a woman who isnt IT trained and think thats a cue to think I will pay anything they make up or suggest a laptop which when I check turns out to be a cheap/older version but for the new version prices. Just want someone whos not trying to rip me off and list what I need.

Not gonna explain all of that but if you need 2 monitors running on it you need either a laptop with USB c / thunderbolt or display port output and compatible screens that support daisy chain video signals. Hdmi output will only allow for 1 monitor at a time.

If you want a good quality laptop and can afford it I would go for a Microsoft Surface. My wife has one and it works fine with a mulitscreen set up using a docking station.

Hi,

The biggest decision you will need to make is what spec laptop you want - this will depend on what you need it to be capable of.

The rest should be easier:
1. Decide what size screen you want (Assuming you do not need it for any art/cad work, pretty much any screen should be ok)
2. Laptop docking station (to plug everything into when at your desk)
3. Keyboard
4. Mouse

The expensive bit is the laptop you choose!

There is of course a multitude of possibilities of how to get that done, and at various price points with windows or apple machines, so the question is really too broad to detail all the possibilities.

Having left the windows world years ago I can only comment on Apple, which I have always found the easiest. My Pro laptop has 2 ports which I suspect I can link to 2 displays if I wanted to (my desktop is on 2 (has been on 6 before).

I suggest you Google apple mac pro dual video output , that should give you your answers. You may need to get adapters (which I have always found buying online cheaper than retail) and then link to pretty much any standard screen.

I have a surface Pro with dual screen set up and works a treat - I effectively have 3 screens and use the Surface as my notepad (using OneNote), which helps if you want to go paperless.

+1 for using a docking station, ideally thunderbolt so that it's one cable to plug in to connect all the attached accessories and power/charge the laptop!

May I ask the budget you have in mind?

How I do it - I have a Lenovo X13 laptop into which I plug an Anker USB-C hub/docking station. Into the hub I have laptop power, network cable, 2x HDMI cables for monitors and a USB hub for keyboard, mouse, headset and webcam.

This gives me three screens as a previous poster mentioned and only once cable that I need to plug/unplug when I go to/from my desk.

I just wish I could fine a way to keep the cables neater, but as they all go to different devices I couldn't find an easy way to gather them up.
