Hi everyone,

I am exploring the idea of starting a CLI and SMS VoIP business in the UK, i had been working as server maintenance (VOS) executive but I am new to start business to this sector and i would appreciate guidance from those with experience or knowledge in this field.

Specifically, I’m looking for advice on:

Registration Process:
What are the legal and regulatory requirements to establish such a business in the UK?
Do I need to register with any telecommunications or data protection authorities (e.g., Ofcom, ICO)?
What licenses or permissions are required?

Business Setup Steps:
What are the key steps to start this type of business?
How do I secure partnerships with telecom providers for CLI and SMS services?
What software or hardware infrastructure is essential to run a VoIP business effectively?

Compliance and Legal Framework:
How do I ensure compliance with UK telecom and data privacy laws?
Are there any industry standards or best practices I should follow?

Other Considerations:
What initial investments should I expect for setting up?
Are there any recommended resources or platforms for learning more about VoIP and SMS services?
Any tips for navigating the competitive landscape in the UK market?

I’d greatly appreciate any advice, resources, or experiences you can share to help me get started. Thank you in advance for your time and support!

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Best regards,

I'm actually the worst person to talk to because I'm going to say that unless you already know the answers to those questions and a lot more, you shouldn't even think about it.

Telecoms is a highly regulated and incredibly competitive business, I would not want to be a start-up now, I'd say it's almost impossible, you're 20 years too late.

If you want a big hint, the alleged 'next big thing' is RCS

Otherwise start by reading Ofcom's General Conditions of Entitlement. I can only wish you luck with that
