Hi guys

Abandoned cart emails, do they have to be opt-in? Even if customer is a first time visitor to site and leaves before completing checkout but does put items in cart?

I think I know the answer, just want a confirm.

Thanks

"The most important thing to remember is that you can only carry out unsolicited electronic marketing if the person you're targeting has given you their permission.

However, there is an exception to this rule. Known as the 'soft opt-in' it applies if the following conditions are met;
  • where you've obtained a person's details in the course of a sale or negotiations for a sale of a product or service;"
The way i read that is that you can send an email about the specific transaction if a cart has been abandoned, e.g. did you have technical difficulty? But you can't follow that up with general marketing e.g. You were interested in X have you thought about Y?

Hi @SeanDigitalSave

No opt in required. Use the area where you include the unsubscribe option in your marketing emails to explain it is a service email offering assistance and that the receiver has not been opted in to any marketing. Plus, give them the option to not receive any similar emails from you in the future.
