Hello everyone. I have just gained my AAT full membership and want to start working for myself after work doing peoples accounts for them. Is there any other AAT accounts out there to advise me on what I can and can't do please and the best way to start as it is all new to me. Thank you Helen

Congratulations:)

You really need Jenni here - she's a regular contributor on here and an AAT MIP.

I too am AAT but my primary professional body is the ACCA.

I believe you'll need to register for what is called the member in practice scheme (MIP) unless you plan to continue with one of the Chartered bodies qualifications. Have a look here - http://www.aat.org.uk/membersinpractice/

Good luck.

Good luck with it. Have you got direct experience of working in practice?

Thank you. I work in accounts at the moment but I have no experience of working for myself. It all seems very scary! I'm just not sure where to start or if my AAT lets me complete accounts from start to finish?

You need to think through and plan very carefully how you intend to gain the necessary practical skills and knowledge you'll need to compliment your AAT training to enable you to run a practice.

You'll have a huge amount to learn - have you considered getting a role in a small practice for a while? I'd definately recommend that.
