Hi Guys I have had a very raw idea and its nothing other than that looking for as much feedback as possible. Basically I am keen squash player, and recently I been thinking of ways to make the game more exciting wondering if it's possible to make the sport more exciting, this is what I came up with.

Extreme Squash
Squash played in the pitch black with a luminous ball.
Luminous line and wall markings
Luminous clothing

My mind has a very vivid picture of a tron like theme maybe somehow incorporating cool sound effects or scoring system into the new courts ect
I have no finances no clue where to start all advice is appreciated even if it's a simple as this is an awful idea.

I used to love playing squash but even in the height of popularity, it was an elitist sport similar to tennis and when the council put courts into their centres, they stood empty.

Remember, you don't play squash to get fit, you need to be fit to play squash.

Well I don't know if times have changed slightly but my friends and i that play are certainly not elitist we were all pretty much dragged up on council estate and the squash courts around our way are constantly full between 5-9 trying to get a court at that time is impossible there are 3 leisure centres each with 2 courts each and they are all full always between them times.

Was 40 on the 7th July. Thanks for the first 'oldie' :D

Hey, I would love for you to be a success with this and maybe you can.

But I am not seeing it myself. I wont say why because I believe that if you have an idea then sometimes you just need to run with it or you may always have that nagging feeling 'What If?'

So pitch the Squash Court and get some members to give it a go. You only need 2. You and someone else PLUS the local newspaper. ;) (They are always short of stories as you may have noticed.)

Maybe for the first time you get a massive long roll of luminous tape from a supplier. Say the press will be there so try and get it for nothing. If you don't ask you don't get. Ask!

You can work out what else you need and source it. Luminous ball, racket markings to stop an accident, T shirt, how long does stuff stay luminous for that sort of thing.

Could be fun! Good Luck.

I like this idea. Sometimes sports need to be 'jazzed up' to increase popularity.

An elite example but look at cricket and the T20 format. It is going from strength to strength and there are whispers that 12 franchises are to start in the United States! That is a big statement seeing as baseball is their main bat and ball sport.

A 'DayGlow Squash League' could be something to consider. Glow in the dark ball etc would definitely appeal to the younger generation and in fairness have we heard of a 14 year old kid excelling at squash in the UK?

So, you think two people running around in a small, confined area swinging racquets in pitch darkness sounds like a good idea? Hmm.

I hope you'd provide a first aid team for when the players get hit around the head in the darkness with a racquet? And, if you were organising this, I wonder what sort of insurance you'd need for the injuries which would undoubtedly result?

I'd put this idea quietly to one side!!

My local has 2 courts, hit and miss - sometimes theyre queing sometimes its empty... probably depends what time i go gym but ive never taken any notice, that being said thats not your question is it.

I think it would make it more entertainign to watch, i just cant see a load of middle aged blokes getting dressed up in glow in the dark shorts and sweat bands and i cant see anyone really wanting to watch middle aged blokes play squash.

If squash is to grow as a sport it needs to appeal to the youth of today. The young generation of now, the under 18s of Britain are social media reliant. As soon as they experience something good or bad they talk about it but not with their mouths but there fingers on their phone or computer.

If a more appealing, cool, sexy squash environment was thought up and promoted in the right way it may increase squash participation, thus increase funding, revenue, more courts and more success.

Whether squash be more colourful, there be music playing in the background or anything else that 'appeals' is only going to be a benefit in the long run.

Yes, middle aged guys or ladies for that matter might not be too interested in the loud noises or flashing lights but if their kids are it is only beneficial for their kids to participate to get them off the sofa
