3-Pack Google Maps Ranking

Hello

Recently notified Google that a couple of businesses listed for xyz niche were no longer trading and others in another listing were in the wrong category so should be removed ( my goal is to get my clients business which is in position 4 into the 3-pack Google Maps Ranking when the competitor gets removed by Google).

Anyone any experience how long are Google taking to reply (due to COVID19 staffing levels) to you by email telling you what they did to the competitor listing?

Google will not remove the listing. Only the owner of the business can do this. If anyone could do as you have done there are opportunities for all sorts of mayhem.

I recently asked for a map update (pin in the wrong place) and it was done in 2 days.

Yep, came here to echo exactly what @fisicx said above.

The listings will remain in Google Maps for as long as Google feel like it basically, if they take heed of your report, they'll just put a bold red notice on the listing to say the business is no longer there or trading.

Only the owner of the business, from their GMB account, can actually delete the listing completely.

Whilst agreeing with the above comments does G notify the owner that someone has told them that the business is closed/temporarily closed (CV19) etc. If not all sorts of cockups could occur without the actual business owner being aware of it. Potentially disastrous!!

Google reply is very quick within 24 hours even with their COVID-19 messages about service disruption, slow...

"Thank you for editing xyz on the map. Thank you for contributing
Your edit is being reviewed. Thanks for sharing your knowledge of Xyz"

fisicx: My goal is not to delete the listing but to remove the listing off the top 3 positions in google maps ranking and optimize my clients 3 pack google maps ranking.

So that my client replaces the business dropped from top 3 maps position. My client is then going to get a ton of new business by outranking competitors by being in A, B, or C position in Google Maps.

Why are they listed and your client is not? What do they have that your client doesn't? Maybe you can fix that.

Google Maps is complicated, MOZ has 11 common Google My Business listing management scenarios and each has different steps to get a solution.

You can tweet to GMB team for advice or go to their forum where a Google Employee may escalate the GMB problem.

This will only happen if the owner of the listing agrees.

Why are they listed and your client is not? What do they have that your client doesn't? Maybe you can fix that.

GMB listings can and do get changed regularly by 3rd party submissions (not the owner/manager) submitting different details. Most business owners don't know this and never read the emails from GMB, or check the listing updates, and hence are surprised when address details, hours and phone numbers have changed!

While a listing won't be taken down by this process, it may well get flagged as closed, which is often enough to get it removed from the 3 pack. It might take more than one 3rd party report for this to happen though...

Paul Carmen: Yes correct, I agree with everything you say, it has surprised me how little knowledge people have of GMB listings since I started offering GMB Optimization services.

One listing I reported for "Xyz keyword" to Google yesterday has gone out of the 3 pack and is now in position 5, don't know if it was my reporting but very pleased that this closed business is out of GMB a,b,c, so I can optimize my clients GMB listing to get them in a,b,or c position for that xyz keyword and thus outrank their competitors.

Spammy, false, closed business and more can be reported to GMB team and will get, removed from GMB a, b, c listing when Google investigate (they don't always investigate), best to contact them on GMB Forums/Twitter if you want to knock off your closed /spammy competitors and get your site A,B,C after optimization, ( very hard to do if very competitive keyword).

Update, Today had a message from Google which is great for our client we can now optimize their 3 pack to get them in the 3 pack for keywords that get 8,000 volume per month:

"Thank you for contributing
Your edit to xyz has been accepted. Note that some changes might take up to 24 hours before appearing on Google.

Thank you for improving Google Maps! Your insights make it a better, more useful map for everyone.

The listing has been removed from results first page for the keywords we are targeting for client, not sure if the listing remains on page 2,3,...

I was surprised how quickly Google acted on our edit especially with their staffing issues with the office closures because of COVID19

If your means of ranking on google maps is to try and get listing above you removed. Then your ranking skills are quite lacking.

How do you propose getting the client to #1? get all the listings removed so you're #1?

If you could get them ranked #1 you wouldn't need to worry about the the dead wood.

Ranking in google maps is quite straight forward, there are good courses on how to do this, Brian Willie is a good start

Way to put Karimbo down like that Nick lol. All those tactics you use for GMB do you use them for each GMB you rank or for the more tougher competitive niches?

Would you say for a typical low to medium niche competition wise that on page site optimisation, good site interlinking, good silo structure and1k+ unique content and citations is usaully enough to get in the snack pack? Or do you need more?

Check out Marie Ysais she is the queen of on page SEO and that's where most people screw up with local SEO and thin content too!

Last question sorry, edits on GMBs do not seem to work now when trying to change a spammy named GMB to its real name. Is there another route now reporting wise??
