Just reading this thread with interest because we're having major problems with Enom and I'm desperate to move away from them now. I've obviously learnt from this thread that 1 and 1 are not the way to go anyway!

I noticed Vidahost have been mentioned a couple of times - are they easy to get hold of by phone if you need to get a problem resolved? Enom are based in the US, I can only contact them by their ticketing system and the person manning that has the technical know-how of your average 4 year old! So I'm looking for someone UK based and easily accessible now. Any more thoughts on Vidahost or does anyone have any other recommendations?

Vidahost are great to get hold of by phone. You will end up speaking to either Dom or Seb. After works hours if you open a support ticket you still usually get a reply the same evening.

They setup my SSL for me the other night at about 10.30pm. I am very very impressed with their service and they will bend over backwards to help you. They also have customer forums where you can talk to other vidahost customers

Enom are primarily a wholesale domain registrar - I've not really used their other services so can't comment/help.

We're Premier ETPs so get direct phone service for any domain issues which invaluable, and if you have an account with Enom we can either move your domains to our account or set you up with a sub-account so you retain the same Enom interface, but come to us for all support.

Also if you use Enom for hosting then the process of moving to a new host is the same as if you used any other host.

Vidahost have always answered me so quickly. I picture Dom and Seb sharing a room 24 hours a day and taking turns to sleep.

Yes, they're service is that efficient. Even for a numpty like I can be at times.

Without a doubt 1and1 are tied worst hosting company ever along with FastHosts!

I had one client previously on 1and1 who had their site and domain held hostage and turned off for 14 days because they tried to move the hosting elsewhere!

I have to agree- NotSoFasthosts have locked me into a year contract even though I tried to cancel with in 24 hours

Regarding FastHosts, one of my Windows dedicated servers took them 14 minutes from when I phoned them with the order to me logging in remotely to configure it - truly fast.

When I came to cancel the server all of a sudden there were hoops to jump through which meant my cancel request fell into the next billing period which they unsucessfully tried to enforce.

My relationship with them forever soured because of a cheap trick they pulled at the last minute.
