Just to ad a tip : creating a page in wiki.org also helps a lot ( it will be added "no-follow" but still worthy)
Change the content frequently ( google likes fresh content )

This list has helped heaps although I may not be as thankful once I have spent many a long night implementing the advice.
I have just launched a price comparison website called shopzuka.co.uk so have my work cut out for me in regards to optimizing it. It is a general comparison site for online shopping so competition is huge.
Other than reading one SEO book and now this thread, my SEO experience is nil so.......

Hello everyone!

I'm a newbie to this forum but having had a quick scan of the information that's available, I think I am definitely going to like it here!!

If I may, I'd like to add my 2 pennies worth about SEO...

Unfortunately, with SEO there is no guarantee that this system will be successful for you either in the long term or short term. It takes time and alot of effort to optimise your web pages to get them listed in the organic searches, but having said that, once you've got the formula right, then this type of advertising is fantastic!

In my opinion the major stumbling block to successful SEO is what's called the "Algorithm". Search Engines will regularly change the algorithms they use in an attempt to improve the results for people that are using their search engines. But, like I said, once you've got this then it's more effective than PPC!

Because of the time factor involved in getting SEO right,traditional advertising ( offline ) or PPC is the quickest way to get visitors to your site, and Facebook is probably even more effective that traditional Adwords advertising!

The above is just my opinion. I have studied and been involved in direct response and online marketing for a few years now and have learned a thing or two along the way. However, having said that, I would welcome as much advise and on-going knowledge about internet marketing as you guys can possibly throw at me!
