Hi,

Someone from Ireland wants to place an order with me and they asked for a '0 vat invoice'.

What does this mean? I'm vat registered! They have a vat number also.

Please Help!

Hi
Simply means that the vat charged to a business in an EEC member country is zero rated, but must include your vat reg number for them to qualify. If you do these transactions on a regular basis, you should inform the vat office on a certain form which they will advise you of if this is the case. Hope this helps. Bob.

Hi thanks for the reply,

So I send them an invoice but no breakdown of vat even at 0% - just all exc vat prices?

Cheers

Hi
If invoice is for £500, just show 'vat at 0% = £0 ' in that row and then total below that as normal is £500. The code is E for exempt if you need to show it anywhere, as opposed to S for standard rate of 17.5%.

Don't worry about it at all as it is just one of the rates you apply to a normal business transaction in UK or Europe.
Cheers. Bob.

You still need to prepare a full VAT invoice but show the rate of VAT at 0% instead of 17½%. You also need to quote your customers VAT number on the invoice including the two digit country code to prove that your customer is VAT registered.

You are also expected to confirm the validity of the customers VAT number. There is a link on the EU website where you can do this or you can check with HMRC. If you want the link to the EU site let me know and I'll try and dig it out.

Many thanks acp-bob and Joyous!

I think I scared her off with the £25 delivery charge!

I did check the vat number they gave me out at http://ec.europa.eu/taxation_customs/vies/en/vieshome.htm and it came up as valid! Is tis the right place?

Funny thing was I asked where the lady found me from and she said she searched the internet. I don't feature that high in search engine ranking at ALL! It's a mad world but hey!

Thanks again!
