£36m given to asylum seekers

The unwanted foreigners, who had no legal right to remain, were given free flights, handed £1,000 in cash at the airport, then paid a further £3,000 to start enterprises in their homelands.
Where else in the world can you go for a 1k CASH payout and be set-up in business?
Please tell me......

I thought asylum seekers left their own countries because of persecution and fear for their lives - why would they want to go back just because they've been given money to set up in business? Not really asylum seekers are they? Freeloaders would be a more apt description.

Britain is now the worlds softest touch and they all know it. I speak to young Egyptian men and they don't want to go to any other country, just the UK and when asked why they all say it is because UK gives away free houses and money. CRAZY doesn't begin to describe it, if you lived in Africa wouldn't you be on the first boat?
All they have to do is claim they went on an anti government protest march or want to change religion and bingo they come under the banner of political asylum.
Personally I would offer them a free flight and £1,000 and if they agree to go home stick them on a boat, don't give them a penny and send them on their way because clearly they are not afraid to return home.

They reckon it costs 11k to forcibly deport each immigrant?
Im sure loads of people could do it for a lot less than 11 thousand.
Heck I would do it for half the price and still have enough money left over to retire rich in no time at all
Are they issuing police with diamond encrusted truncheons, and giving the immigrants lifts to the airport in helicopters?
How much does it take to get a couple of officers to escort someone to the airport, and onto a plane?

I wonder if they'd all be so eager to live in the UK if one of the conditions of citizenship was that they had to do national service and go to any trouble spots the army sent them to whilst they were serving.
Where are they all going to go when the country has been bled dry of funds and they get no more handouts?

One of my concerns is that groups of people are generally tarred with the same brush and while we are pandering to people that don't need help we are not concentrating on those genuine cases where people genuinely need asylum. Money could then be channeled into teaching english and settling successsful candidates into our society - intergration is a must.
We need to look at our system, we can't blame people for taking advantage of it if that is the system the government have chosen to set up. This is why we now have such a strong radical Islamist element in our society, we opened our doors to people other countries were trying to remove from their societies because of their active political activities.

Ill tell you whats more worrying than the people arriving "on our shores and expecting handouts" and thats the people who were born on these shores and expect handouts. The millions who sit on their a*se allday and claim benefits instead of getting a job, the millions who falsely claim invalidity and get handouts. The millions who "play" the tax credit schemes and get away with it.
For me, thats far more concerning.
Britain is not going through anything which other EU countries have not gone through in the last 15 years. Will Arab or Polish be our first language in 10 years time ? No. I am far from being part of the PC brigade but what I do believe is that we spend far too much time whining about asylum seekers and fellow EU citizens moving here from the likes of Poland etc and have started ignoring and wrongly pointing the blame at other issues.

I could not agree more - we are too soft on home grown malingerers - and need to get tough!
I'm all for immigration and welcome those that arrive, roll up their sleeves and get stuck in. We have a small Polish community locally for example, and their work ethic is fantastic - they are brilliant.
But that should not be confused with the other type of "economic migrant" (whether dressed up as an asylum seeker or not) - who is attracted to these shores by our outrageously generous benefits system alone.
Take away those benefits - and you take away the problem IMO

Earl, I agree with your sentiment - but not with your logic (please look at my posts above to see that I welcome controlled immigration)
If we take your suggestion literally, we could all stand on the street corner handing tenners out to strangers until we have given our house away.

Ultimately the money has to come from somewhere.....and unfortunately it's from the indiginous population.
We are already paying too much in this country for goods, taxes, etc etc without supporting people who have put nothing into the system.
Nobody wants to deny hardworking people from adding to our society but equally no-one wants to fund people who come here to abuse our soft touch system.
Immmigration and asylum has been thrust upon us by a weak and confused government and not by the wishes of the taxpayers of the UK.
We are already paying too much in this country for goods, taxes, etc etc without supporting people who have put nothing into the system.
Nobody wants to deny hardworking people from adding to our society but equally no-one wants to fund people who come here to abuse our soft touch system.

Are you concerned about the thread been in the wrong place, (2), or with the thread not been censored, (1)?
"..closed and deleted" would, of course, make all the problems go away, and we could all get on with traditional Christmas stuff, like binge drinking, drug abuse and cheap outdoor heater Christmas presents from China.
(Does Santa get the £4K when he leaves these shores at Christmas? Is he a refugee because of that one Lap dancing incident?)

I think it is quite legitimate to bring it onto this forum.
Just how does it tarnish the forums reputation?
I had no intention of making any political point.I think it is relative to the business community as a whole.
What other forum would you suggest?

Reading back through the thread I cannot think what your objection is?
Nobody has been anti immigration at all - quite the opposite!
What the consensus does seem to indicate is that most of us object to the poor way in which illegal immigration is dealt with.
