    Jeez, and I thought Denmark was f**ked.......

    Well, we can soon expect more immigrants, after 27 prime ministers signed that agreement in Portugal. Think about it - 27 people can now act on behalf of 500 europeans, without asking the last 499.999.973 others!! They have just replaced the entire European population, and we're paying for it at the same time..... Why shouldn't the immigrants come to the lands of milk and honey.......

    I think you are confusing economic migration with illegal immigrants.Two entirely different things and not the topic I started.
    And to appease those of a nervous disposition,please don't go down this road.

    My `objection` is the fact that it was posted in a general business forum, instead say time out - general non business chat :)

    The questions raised here are not easy to answer and answers become political and personal like it or not, such as lazy government, indigenous people versus `new comers` etc. I am not saying that I disagree or agree with the sentiment per se. What I am saying - general business forum is not the best place for such discussion to take place.


    When I said closed and deleted that was over the top I admit that. So it the yellow press headlines.

    Anyway I am going to drink tea :)

    Agreed - with hindsight "Time Out" would have been a good choice - but hardly a reason for this thread to:

    This book on waste is good, and you could read it over Christmas if you don't get too wasted, what with all that bingeing going to your waist.

    Did you know that the money our Blessed Rulers are saving by pissing off Plod would run the NHS..for 3 hours. Bad bargain. 'Spose Gordo thinks he saved dosh by going East Jet to Lisbon, and this makes up for arriving late. Need head squeezing, all of them*.

    Forgive me if I'm wrong Sedders, but I presume you are a Guardian and/or an Independent reader: thus probably you would think of yourself as a liberal; of the left.
    You are happy to write off vast swathes of the population, (readers of The Mail, The Express, The Sun), as been stupid beyond redemption, having the instincts of lower animals etc.
    Might this show a certain lack of compassion, an absence of doubt, an almost narcissistic self belief, incompatible with democracy, and post enlightenment civilisation?

    I quite agree with you. Sod the smellies. Try not to even breed with them eh?:)

    The Daily Mail knows its market very well, they write for, and to, their market they give their readers what they want , simple black and white views lacking much of the complexity of real life. When I have read the Daily Mail this is the thing I notice. Read it by all means and view it as serious journalism if you wish, that's your choice, I view it differently. You pays your money you takes your choice.

    I read the Daily Mail - I also make sure I read other papers as well! Makes for a more balanced appreciation of any story (and, by that, I mean through reading more than one of any paper). Reading only one news source isn't the greatest way to actually have an appreciation of what is happening.

    Thing is, does the Daily Mail fire righteous indignation in the masses or reflect it?? :|

    Agreed - I read them all online (but the Daily Mail is most in line with my personal thoughts - admitted)

    The best answer I can give, is that all journalism is subjective not objective and a singular truth doesn't exist but truths do. If you read the DM and it fits your world view, fair enough, when I have read the DM it just seems simplistic to me. It isnt important enough an issue to me to start searching the web for articles critical of the DM's journalistic standards. I hope this is good enough of an answer for you, if not, what can I say.:(

    Well, that encompasses economic migration as much as asylum seekers (probably more so in some respects) so I don't see where that comment fits in to the original reference or debate?

    (Mind you, I read the first two or three pages, went out for a while and picked up the the last couple, so may have missed a thread evolution!!)

    A more important issue right now is not to improve things, but to stop them deteriorating further.

    Ever increasing taxation.
    Hospitals that kill rather than cure.
    An education system that produces illiterates.
    Out of control youth who stab each other in the streets.

    To name but a few.

    That's going to take quite some effort, and a good number of years before we can even dream of the better life you refer to.

    Oh, come on. So, the government spends a few million here for asylum seekers and wastes a few billion there of the money contributed by future retirees. What's the big deal? They have a bottomless pit called the taxpayer. All they have to do is plead poverty and raise taxes on everyone. :)

    Prediction: the government will soon claim they must raise taxes. It's so easy for them to do so when the money's out there and no-one can stop them from stealing it.

    If everyone does not like the way in which our governement is handling asylum seeksers, immigration and more why dont you just vote someone into power who is willing to deal with this matter for the benefit of you British folk!

    Rule out labour and conservative for starters.
