Hi everyone...

I used to following this forum a few years back... And have just rejoined as I am now looking at setting up a UK business and don't know where to start! HELP HAHA

I specialise in
web design,
seo,
Social media marketing,
business growth,
Lead generation,
Improving website conversions etc
I also have 15 years sales experience face to face and on the phone!

However for many years I have been doing these things for businesses

From finance to real estate to dental surgeries.but always as an employee..

The truth is I can't seem to think of a way to use these skills to move forward on my own as a business...

I have some clients that I have built sites for over the years and done seo for etc...

But what now!

Any thoughts will be very much appreciated...

Also if anyone would like me to take a look at their websites and give some feedback on how you can make improvements just let me know

Regards

Andy

This is the issue @AllUpHere I can't decide which way to go with it..

Whether to build a site and advertise myself as a marketing consultant

Or whether to find a product or service to sell... And earn commissions etc

If you had the skills and knowledge required to be a marketing consultant you wouldn't have needed to ask the question, so that leaves you with the second option.

If you've always been employed, your marketing knowledge is always going to be limited. Why have you decided that now is the time to set up on your own?

I haven't just decided to do it now on my own.

I have worked as a marketing consultant for many years.

I have just moved back to the UK after operating overseas for many years...

I just can't decide which way to go with it... I already have seo clients and marketing clients but I want to something a little bit different..

When I say I have done it for other businesses I mean I haven't ever advertised my own products really.. I always grow other peoples businesses rather than my own online store etc.

With regards to having the required skills.. I don't know you just as much as you don't know me... So I have no idea about your skill sets etc.. Just as you don't mine.. So in the same way I wouldn't comment on your skill sets don't assume it is OK for you to assume mine are not sufficient.

It is not an issue with the knowledge or being able to do a good job... I just want to do something a little bit different something a bit more of a challenge.

I'm not saying you don't have the skills to start a business, I'm saying a good marketing consultant wouldn't be in the position you are in now.
I thought your original post was either a joke or a troll looking for a reaction but I gave you the benefit of the doubt. With hindsight I wish I hadn't bothered.

OK.. I understand your comment

However your assumption that I am in some sort of position again is not correct... I have clients and make a full income from it.. but I have just moved back to the UK and want to set something up here.

I'm not jobless begging for advise haha

I know how to be a marketing consultant.. however I want to something different with my skill sets... Something a bit more of a challenge!

Set up something a little different and use those skills to make it work!

I've just moved back to the UK and fancy a new challenge..

Regards...

Buy some land, grow stuff and sell it at the local farmers market.

Become a classic car restorer.

Train as a doctor

Set up a window cleaning business

Nobody here can advise on your future career choices. This is totally up to you.

Yes I suppose you are right... Need to try and get the thinking cap on and decide what I want to do.... Haha

I think OP you have to ask yourself honestly if you are in the right mindset to go it alone. One thing you need in business is a vision of where you want to go, and from your posts you do not seem to have a clue.

Take some time, something might come into your head, maybe it will not.

Best of luck.

A marketing consultant who has not got a vision of where they want to go, or have not seen a gap in the field they specialise in seems to be sending out the wrong messages for me.

As above are you really ready to go it alone. I think personally I would do what I enjoyed the most.

Hi guys thanks for the feedback...

I think a few people are missing the point of the post... The title is what should I do next... Ie: in addition to the marketing etc that I already do..

The vision is there... I already run a successful marketing business.... But I have recently moved back to the UK and fancy doing something a bit different along side what I already do.

I was just after some feedback to see if any other people have like a sideline online business!

Have a good day everyone

I assume because I said I work as an employee... What I mean by that is I am always working growing someone else's website or client database...

I don't have a product that I sell... Or an online store for example....

I was just thinking maybe it is time to launch something also for my self... Where as for once I market my own product instead of someone else's!

You said earlier in the thread that one option was to try to set yourself up as a marketing consultant, but it appears you don't know how to market that idea. You mentioned in another thread yesterday that marketing consultants don't add value, but just take a cut of everything and make projects more expensive.

Add to that the fact that you had posts deleted by mods for spamming the forum trying to promote your marketing services.

You can see why we are confused.

Yes @AllUpHere you are correct in some of what you.. but as I said I am just back in the UK and I was referring to setting up over here.... and I have never said I don't know how to do that I said.. I cant decide whether to do that or to set something up for myself.

I didn't say they don't add value... I said they are great if you have the budget.... but I was advising on how to do it on a budget. As he can do the research himself quite easily and build a marketing plan.... everything he needs to know is on Youtube or a site like Udemy....

The post that was deleted is the one you reported... because I offer to have a look at someones website for them... for free actually... however I didn't realise that was a violation of the rules and apologised for it.

Hello Andy.

You are good at SEO, doing something good at and trying something new is all your choice and your life.

any choice is your own life, just do it.

best wishes for you,

Is your question really as broad as I'm reading it (ie 'tell me what to do')? Or are you asdking for advice on setting up a speccific business?

If it's the former, the answer really is look at what is already being done & find a market.

if it's the latter, you need to re-phrase & restart the thread
