You pay in cheques via the post - A&L give you a cheque deposit book which you fill out and they also give you envelopes to return in.
Ours go with the Post Office's own mail back to A&L and we havent encountered any problems yet although it does take a little longer to receive the credit
We deal in mainly cash and bank with Alliance & Leicester through the post office.
They do some reasonable deals and I think are the cheapest per £100 of any of the high street banks
