Small Debt Collection - Worth Pursuing Further

Hi All,

I run a newsagents / convenience store and more recently we are encountering situations of non payment.

We have taken action to reduce all credit limits and pro-activley issue and act upon final demands to limit our exposure.

I have one case in particular that i processed through the MCOL service and it is currently sat with judgment in our favour.

The claim in total £152.32 inc court costs.

Small sums of money i agree but the court action is taken on principle - And £152.32 is a large loss in terms of newspaper supply.

I'm asking if you have any advice on whether this is worth pursuing any further or whether we have taken it as far as possible with regards to the amount due.

Thanks

Kev

You are limited in options here with the debt being very small amount,

I would't issue a warrant of execution because you'll end up with nothing still and the court £100.00 better off.

I would contact them in writing saying you have obtained a County Court Judgement against them and payment must be made within 7/14 days and should they fail to make payment you will have no alternative but to issue a warrant and call upon the court bailiffs to enforce the judgement, Id also put in a part regarding a payment plan as they may see it as a way out if they are having money problems.

Sad you are out of pocket, and the amount is relative to each business.
I like the idea of offering a payment option, as this would see you get your money, without hassle, and give the people concerned a way out.

Could you make this offer, without the court being involved, or are they people who will just likely ignore this.

I also think you are going to have to set a limit as to how much credit people can run up; place a sign over the counter, this way everyone understands and it saves embarrassment.
Hope you can sort it.
