Hi all

I have had a great week. On Monday I was asked to attend a local 6th Form college in Manchester and act as a dragon for new businesses. Two other business owners and I watched several groups of 17 & 18 year olds put their business ideas forward, we then gave one group a £150 fund to put their ideas into action. I have also been asked to go along and help judge tomorrow for the finals, I think it is sponsored by Microsoft too.

It felt so good to be asked to do something like this, and althought it has taken quite a bit of my time and it wasn't paid work, strangly my profits have been really high this week! It might just be a coincidence but I have not been in the office at all and instead giving my time for other projects and yet I have made more money! I am also giving a talk for charity fashion show tomorrow night with Geoff Beattie from Big Brother (resident psychologist) so it is a another great oppertunity.

I really reccomend giving your time to local events as I am sure there are loads you can get involved with.

Just thought I would put this on here to see if anyone has had similar experiences.

Giving time and money to charity and good causes is always rewarding and hopefully more so for the taker than the giver.

Great that you are giving something back and hopefully with your help and that of Microsoft they will gain something.

I went with the intention of being really nice and helpful, as I see no reason to be hard on people when they are trying to do something creative.

I was a little dissapointed in a couple of the groups because they had only started thinking about their business idea that morning, they had weeks to decide. So a couple were unprepared and therefore not very good. If I was going to make a presentation for funding, I would have had everything planned out and prepared, but I sppose they are young and they will learn from it.

The people who won had a good business idea, supplies waiting, vendors waiting, pricing structure and marketing sorted. They were clear winners.

It was great to get involved and I am doing it again today for the finals at Manchester Met Uni.

Hi

Well done.

I think it's good to encourage them to attempt to be inventive.

My eldest daughter did this at her high school and they were awarded funding to see the project through, so I thought best corner the market and gave her a job!

Let the next generation take the strain!

You have to wonder if this was partly their teachers' fault. I've heard similar happen in big business organisations. The senior managers bring in a training programme that a certain level of staff have to go on, but that level's immediate bosses won't give them the time to go on it. Then when the staff are under-performing everyone says what a waste of time the training was.

Hi all

I went along and judged another round today and the special guest host was the guy who set up the web site selling pixels as advertising space. In 4 months he made $1,000,000

Some really good ideas today and a guy who had designed a lock for skis won the £150 award.

Just got back in from a charity event tonight that was quite good. I think they made about 2k for charity and I have been invited to appear on a radio show in a week's time.

Blimey Matt! I need your brain. I am the worlds worst fundraiser and I so need to do some. I have got our towns carnival coming up in June for which I am one of the organisers. 25,000 people attended last year but can I think of a really stonking idea to raise funds for my social enterprise, can I heck!
