On the other hand some prefer to pay someone else to do all the hard stuff. AWS may cost more but using their services means business owners can get on with running their business.
There is an argument for this, but my argument, is that, this website doesn't need all that lol. I've worked with forums that have up to 100 plugins (using MyBB, very similar to Xenforo, but open source lmao), hundreds of daily sign-ups, HUNDREDS (possibly thousands including posts/replies) of new threads a day; running of <$30/mo hardware lmao

Services like AWS wanna take all your money. Buy an affordable VPS, or even dedicated server, and hire someone one-time to setup caching etc etc etc etc - or pay someone to setup cpanel lmao - then keep them on retainer.

That one-time fee to a sys admin would cost less than anything AWS, AZURE etc offer lmao

this isnt new stuff, its just you guys are too small minded and like doing what you like and don't wanna hear anything else lmao

Maybe you are right. But you are talking to the wrong person. Only @Ozzy knows how the forum is hosted and the reasons for that. The rest of us are just lowly moderators.

The first ad covers the top half on my iphone. The second ad is for singles over 40 but I can scroll past that.

Clicking on the forum link produces a pop up ad that covers the whole screen but thankfully I can close that as well. I've not yet even reached the actual forums page!

It’s your phone not the forum.
    it's the Google Ads

here is a typical example of what I see when not signed in

I get exactly the same in Firefox on my desktop and Chrome on my Android phone/tablet with no browser extensions installed. I also get the banner ads across the top/bottom and down the side of the page.

I’ve also had the pop up ads on my iPhone, no extensions installed.

I just took a few screenshots of the ads I’ve just seen on 1 thread - there was an ad that covered the top half of the screen which could be reduced and then duplicate ads throughout the thread after every couple of posts.

I’ve attached 2 of the screenshots, it said the file size of the other 3 screenshots was too large.

I’m not sure if this number of ads or the size is intentional but wanted to flag it in case it isn’t.

This is what I'm seeing this morning. The banners down the side appear and disappear as I scroll the page. Some pages have a banner across the top, covering the navigation, or across the bottom.

Yes. I'm not a paid member anymore so I appreciate that I am going to see ads but I'd not expect to see nothing but ads.
@Ozzy might need to revisit this as I did a bit of testing and the adverts can make it almost impossible to use the forum. Not just pop ups but everywhere on the page.

You've hit the nail on the head. The forum has become practically inaccessible. I don't know how it is for new users who are trying to post a query but it looks as though it is grinding to a halt from the weight of the ads.

If it pays enough to stop Ozzie going out to mug old ladies for their bingo money, then the Google Ads might be worthwhile; but I can't see the revenue from them amounting to much more than the price of a cheese burger every month.

Never under estimate how much ££££ those ol' ladies take to the bingo.
Got myself a double whoppa with cheese from my last heist!
