    Hi community,

Since October 2023, we have received a letter from HMRC regarding VAT declarations for the company that we have ceased trading. The business activity stopped with 0 sales and 0 expenses.

The accountant is requesting £270 for VAT declarations. How can I submit 0 sales and 0 expense notifications every 3 months? I have stopped working with the accountant because the business has ceased trading. There are no salaries, employees, or transactions for the company.

I attempted to add the company to my Gov.UK account, but it indicated that it was managed with another gateway ID.

How can I manage my company's HMRC account from my own account?

    Many thanks,

It may have ceased trading, but has it been closed/struck off?

When you ceased trading, what instructions did you give the accountant?

I do not want to close the company, I believe that an old company will make things easier for my future plans.
I'm which case you need to continue to file accounts with CH. The Accountant is entitled to charge for doing so. Or you can do it yourself.

You will first need to login using the old gateway ID. If you have lost this you can recover your login using the link @Scalloway posted.

Your accountant shouldn't be using your personal HMRC account - accountants should use an agent version. Ask them to clarify if they are using your personal account?

You can add your accountant to your personal HMRC account if they are also handling your personal tax.

Just as you add them to your company account.

They should never be the "owner" or primary user of either account.

You can authorise an agent via your account but an accountant should always be using an Agent Government Gateway so that you dont add them to your personal account.
