Can't log in/change password to Opencart

I can't seem to get into my Opencart installation. I couldn't find the password, so I clicked Forgotten Password and put in the email address associated with the admin account. It sent the email, I clicked the link and changed the password.

It won't accept the password. Not sure what to do next. Any help appreciated.

Ehh, fixed it. Created a new password without symbols. It accepted it on login this time!

That's a strange one, was this in the latest, 4.0.2.3? And what symbols did you use?

No, this was 3.0.3.8 - I had to use that since I found so few extensions and modules compatible with 4.

I don't honestly remember which symbols but I think I had # ! or ones like that. I used a password generated by my password manager which I didn't pay much attention to.

Yes we'd still recommend OpenCart 3 for now, but 3.0.3.9 supports PHP 8 which has a few advantages, so I'd probably go with 3.0.3.9 at this point.

Is the upgrade procedure easy to do? Or do I need to do a fresh install?

@antropy - tried to use the "Get a quote" on your website but it just sticks on "Sending" - not sure if it's gone through or not.

The new PayPal extension is broken (at least for some people) in 3.0.3.9 so I had to stick with the old PP Express extension. Will be moving to 3rd party extensions for PP and Stripe.

From what I have read on the OC forums, I would definitely stick with 3.x and not touch 4 for some while, maybe never.

Glad you managed to get in touch in the end!

We test our contact forms weekly as everyone should, but an SSL change did cause them to stop working for just a few days over Xmas, sorry about that!

Sorry, I've got it a**e about face. It was my host that required me to move to PHP8, which meant I had to upgrade to the latest OpenCart.

No worries. PHP 8 does require at least OpenCart 3.0.3.9.

When a hoster forces you it's time to look for another.
Get better condition elsewhere or upgrade to dedicated server.

Agreed. We still allow our hosting customers to use the PHP version they want as there are "hardened" versions available.
