I'm going to start a roofing company but I'm trying to decide between 3 names and I'd like to hear your guys thought.

Skyline roofing
UltraSeal roofing

You should search on google for the "business naming brief" and you should be able to find a pretty useful format which will actually allow you create a shortlist with the most important criteria in choosing the name, based on your specific market and niche.

Totally unnecessary and not required.

There's no 'useful format' needed here. He is starting a roofing company

Area or personal names are always the safe bet. Does what it says on the tin type of name. You could come up with something like Kanga Roofing but many will think it's trash and gimmicky. Always stick with the safe bet unless you have a specific need to push beyond.

I have always been wary of tradesmen hiding behind random corporate company names. There's definitely something to be said for those who are prepared to have their own name in the Title as it quite obvious who owns and runs the business and also who is doing the work should things go wrong or not be as expected.

None of these. If I were looking for a roofer I'd go for someone trading under their own name, ideally someone local to me. I would run a mile from any company or individual with names like you suggest.

I happen to know a cowboy roofer and he trades under a name like Roofline Solutions, or something silly like that. I wouldn't trust him to sweep up, never mind fix a roof.

I agree that you shouldn't overthink a business name but even a roofing company name should be created around some specific elements which will help with the SEO & marketing in the future.
Wrong.

If you decide to branch out and do fences a highly specific name will work against you.

If I was looking for a roofer, I’d give you a miss with any of those 3 names.

I like trademen that use their own names.

I worked in the hardware/merchants trade for many years and the guys that were the best almost always traded under their own names.

Border Fox Roofing tells you what you do and who does it, that’s all you need.

OP hasn't been back for nearly a month so I think it's safe to say this thread has run its course.
