Bank Account - advise please

Hi,

I want to register my LTD company but before that I have to decide where will I open my bank account. I was told and thinking recently to try with Barclays... What are your suggestions/experience and how long do you have to wait for it? Some said few days, some 1 month eek.

I am with NatWest, took them about a week to open the account but was pretty straight forward.

Saw my business manager in the branch and have spoken to her several times since I opened to make sure everything it going ok

The relationship seems to be going very well so far!

Hi Jolene

All the banks have something to offer. Our preferred partner is Barclays as you can go into branch and they have a great package called MY Business Works, with accounts software etc included

Barclays is great as long as you don't ever have to deal with their customer services.

I have business accounts with both Barclays and HSBC, and I much prefer HSBC. Can't complain about the facilities that Barclays provide me with, but whenever I want some help from a human being, things go wrong, since Barclays don't employ any.

Customer service isn't great with any unfortunately, I use HSBC but I have never seen or heard much difference between different banks really.

At least with HSBC, you get a UK call centre. Not that I have anything against Indian call centres, but you do often get the feeling that the person on the other end of the line doesn't understand you (although they probably understand you perfectly).

I'd recommend HSBC, NatWest or Lloyds TSB.

We also published a blog post some time ago about the topic of banking for small businesses and startups.

- Lloyds TSB is free for the first 18 months
- HSBC is also free for 18 months
- NatWest offers 2 years free business banking + Regus Businessworld Preferred membership

As an accountant dealing with lots of small and start up businesses I hear good and bad about all of the banks. Personally I think they are all much the same.

My firm banks with Barclays and have no issues but everything is online we never visit a branch and very very rarely call them.
