Does anyone want to 'work' anymore?

Actually, I want that job! I will dissolve my business to get the opportunity... An unknown employer, zero hour contract, no wage (commission only)... what more could you ask for?

This is how poor the business is... Why pay a commission instead of a wage? If the business works its going to be cheaper to pay NMW then it is for a proper commission. You want free employees and to give them a bonus below the NMW when you make good profits (I mean money, you have pretty much no outgoings)... its an illegal enterprise. No wonder everyone stay clear.

Any successful deal has two sides. Think of it like a see saw trying to balance.

Right now the op's big fat go getter ass is at one end weighing down the deal and your prospective employee is sitting high and dry at the other end with only one way to go if you bail out of the deal.

I think that's a simplistic enough explanation to the root of the problem

Does anyone else feel the same? that the youth of today just do not want to work (lets remember that I myself am in my early 20s and I hold down a full time job and have started, along with a couple others this new company)

All you hear is everyone moaning about how theres no work and no one is employing at the moment and yet we are offering work that has no set hours, can be done locally, potentially run and manage other people, socialise and earn a good comission...
Do you think weve been flooded with people that need money asking to work?... the answer is no.

Is this how the younger generation are? Is the doll form that easy to fill out? Is it the work were offering? Is there any old fashioned 'work for your money' people growing up?

Thoughts/opinions/advice?...

For as long as there are people who have their perfect life, living off of benefits without the bother, expense or inconvenience of having to get up in the morning and go out at 7a.m in temperatures of -10c on a January morning and do an honest day's work, all the yapping about Thatcher, poverty traps, MPs income and the lack of jobs is totally and utterly meaningless.

There could be twenty jobs for every unemployed person, affordable housing could be ten a penny, MPs could work for free, the mines could still be open and bankers could pay back every single penny that they lost......but all the time that benefits paid are sufficient for people to live nice, quiet, uncomplicated lives there will be tens of thousands, if not hundreds of thousands, of people who simply do not want to work and will not work.

The answer is to remove cash from the benefits system........you get vouchers, £x for food, £x for gas, £x for electricity, you get the idea.

All of a sudden you don't have £40 to p1$$ up against the wall on booze on a Friday night........do the maths, it isn't rocket science.

All we need is a Government with the cojones to implement such a scheme.

I work 50 hours a week for free (the job was advertised as an apprentice, so the word 'intern' doesn't scare people off), so I can gain experience in a field I want to work in. I do this on top of working from home, looking at my family, etc. I'm in my 20s.

Do people want to 'work' anymore? Yes, they do. Do people want to work commission only for a company with no history? No. I worked in sales for many years, I have never entertained the idea of a commission only job with a new startup.

If you devalue your potential employees, they will devalue your business.

To be fair NicNac if you are working for free as apprentice then it's illegal as ALL jobs have to comply with NMW laws. Even interns are not allowed to be unpaid unless exceptional circumstances .. Project work etc

Just because a business can't afford it is no excuse! Otherwise it's not really a business it's just an idea.

The apprentice rate is £2.65 per hour but still legal requirement.

There are official work experience schemes where people can work unpaid for 2-8 weeks and I would encourage anyone to go through a proper scheme so that expenses and travel are covered and for the experience to be safe ie; insurance, health and safety

If people take illegal jobs then some rogue employers will continue to think its ok to offer illegal jobs :)

What a sad state we are in when someone can't offer a job legally at absolute minimum cost and still has to operate outside what's acceptable passing it off as passion for starting a business

Hence why the hardest working members of society are seldom wealthy.:)

There is a Dilbert-type rule in large companies that the harder you work, the less you make.

However, working less is not the key to earning more :p

Bit of a conundrum eh?

There's some corollary to the effect that - the more you are able to get other people to do the work for you, the more you earn.

Leveraging other people's money and efforts are two very important principles indeed. However, I think the key is getting them to WANT to give you their efforts and money :)

Thanks for the reply, and a good thing to remember when I move back to the UK next year and maybe look at taking on my own apprentices. I live abroad atm. :) The business I work for can afford it, we just exchange like for like services. Ironically I'm taking on my own paying clients tomorrow.
