Hello Everybody

Who has hosted with JustHost and had made which experiences? I found very conflicting info on JustHost and would be happy about any additional information, before I transfer my site to them.

Thank you

Hey Parlian,

One of my customers are using them.

Awful servers, not reliable. Some what slow at times.
They also don't support "catch all mail", meaning - if your email is [email protected] but someone mis spells your name... you WONT get it.
They claim it's to stop "spam". But there's a ton of different spam filters you can use to solve that problem :)

At the same time, thats the only time I've experienced JustHost. So don't take my word for it! Other people may not have had a single problem.

You should really avoid using catch-all's the recipient will end up receiving more spam plus you put far more load on the providers email servers.

You are better off adding email aliases for the odd variation of the actual address.

I have catch all set up on 5 domains... 1 or 2 emails might slip through every other day.

I'm personally happy to receive 1 / 2 spam emails every other day... atleast I won't miss an important message if someone makes a typo :D

Never had any dealings with them but I would certainly be wary if the website has conflicting information.

Have you tried ringing or emailing them to clarify the issues?

I Would be cautious, Justhost offer "unlimited" space/bandwidth, The disadvantages of unlimited hosts has been discussed here before alot. If the uptime/reliability of your website is important to you/your business then I would seriously take a look around at other providers who have more realistic packages and a slightly better reputation.

A quick google of 'justhost' will bring up plenty of reviews/storys im sure.

Just want to say; nothing is unlimited and hosting offers like "unlimited bandwidth" are simply unhonest. Read careful their TOS and just search on Google for "unlimited inodes". There is the thruth about the "unlimited" hosting.

...but for those of us who spam filter 60,000,000 emails a month, it would be nice if you didn't make "catch-alls" a requirement to the uninitiated. :D

    RE: Justhosts

You get what you pay for. In my experience JustHosts are a lot better than Fasthost (who I used before), but not perfect. It haven't experienced the site being down, and webmonitoring confirm this, however it is sometimes slow.

However, JustHost were amazing value for money. Go via quidco for an extra GBP30 cashback, and use the discount code 50OFF. This gives you a website and email for about GBP 2.50 per month.

Not all Unlimited hosts are bad. True, there have to be limits to "unlimited" but restrictions like "unlimited genuine web content, but you can't use bandwidth as storage" seems very reasonable to me.

This is why I have a link to Unlimited Web Hosting in my sig. They are very well priced, they receive amazing reviews, and their customer service is brilliant. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anyone.

As a side issue but along the same lines, it is always better to sign up for a month to month deal with a new hosting provider so that you can assess their service for yourself. If it is not at the standard you want you can then move without being tied in for 1 or 2 years.

OK so this often means not getting the best price as lots of companies (including myself) offer discounts for people signing up for longer periods. This can be a false economy though if you then need to move after 2 months and cannot get your money back!

We have been using JUST HOST for a few years now without any problems. I had little experience in IT and did not know how to upload the site etc, their customer service was quite helpful in making sure that the site went live quickly and did call back to check if all was in order.
Someone has made a comment that they don't catch emails where the address is misspelt, but they have done for us, all emails with misspelt addresses go into a separate inbox that I check from time to time and it does receive emails. Hope this helps.

I have two websites with justhost. One is a standard basic website, the other is an online shopping cart. On the cart, most of the products are downloadable files of PDfs. When i have had a problen with this site, it is usually down to something justhosts have updated. I am on a dedicated server as i have an SSl with them.

As far as i am aware the site has never been down for a great length of time. When i have needed their help they have always remidied what ever fault there was.

I have nothing bad to say about them, but i do wish when they upgraded something they would let me know.

The store is located at http://www.railwayscenics.com

I have used justhost along with others for many years now and I wouldn't recommend them solely because their servers are slow for UK customers. I average around 50ms ping on UK sites but around 140ms on justhost. Their FTP is very slow comared to others, I occasionally am unable to connect a few minutes a day and their support can take over 3 hours to reply (which isn't so bad for a big company).

Other things you need to be aware of:

Even though they state unlimited it's not and their T&C states you can only use website related files. Many people have claimed that if you go over the 'fair usage' bandwidth they'll shut down your site and tell you you need to upgrade to a dedicated server.
I ran a few static sites from one account and one ecomm but had the ecomm site hacked so they shut down my account and all websites related. It took them nearly 1 day to put it back online and only after THEY completely wiped the offending website making it impossible to find how it was hacked. Luckily they left the SQL database on there and was able to look at the sql logs but when I asked for website logs they couldn't provide them.
Also by VERY aware of repeating charges!! Always pay with paypal and don't fall for their 'submit to search engines' stuff. I did it for one new site once and they recharged £50 for the same website a year later! Why anyone would want an established website resubmitting to google I will never know.
Also be VERY aware of their FREE domain for life. They do it lock you into their hosting and I've heard they charge ridiculous amounts for them to release the domain.

I last posted on this thread over 1 year ago (as a happy customer of justhost). Since then webmonitor has noticed a few periods of downtime, and I get the sense that the speed has slowed down.

I am using gtmetrix.com to benchmark the speed of my website, and it compares well to other magento stores, however I suspect that gtmetrix is US based and this makes a difference. Does anyone know how to benchmark the speed for UK viewers?

I am building a website which is not yet live, hosted by JustHost. While working on the site I encountered a number of short periods when the site was unavailable, so I decided to monitor it using Pingdom.com. In just 13 days this has identified 53 outages totalling 7.5 hours of downtime, including one incidence of more than 4 hours downtime. Obviously I cannot contemplate going live with this level of availability; I have just asked them if there's anything they can do to improve things, otherwise I'll be cancelling and moving elsewhere before going live.

Also ping response time is 164ms on JustHost compared to only 23ms on another site I have with Namesco.

yes I used them years ago and found the same thing. Daily outages of around 15 minutes, slow FTP and high ping rates. If your website is for the UK I suggest you move to UK hosting. You can also wait 3-6 hours for support questions to be answered so if there's a few emails going back and forth you're looking at a whole day to resolve simple issues.

After 3 increasingly firm emails (in response to 2 attempted fob-offs from them) they are now moving my account to a new server so I'll see if that fixes things. If not, will simply move to somewhere with an 99.9% uptime guarantee, and UK servers. Probably just stick with Namesco although have to say JustHost support was quick, just not (at first) very helpful!

I've been with JustHost for over 2 years now and never had a problem. They do expect you to pay for fast support (an option) but I use their regular support and have found them to speak plain English, react within 48hours and it's all easy to use.
I tried a few big names before settling with JustHost and no they're not perfect but I'd think no host truly is.

A new hosting specific forum is open at http://www.ukbusinessforums.co.uk/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=132. It'd be good if we can get some discussion on good/bad companies, service expectations, how to get the most from your hosting company there.

While I've seen plenty of poor JustHost reviews, I'm shocked that they expect you to pay for fast support. 2 day / 48 hour support definitely isn't the norm.

Yeah it isn't great but to be fair most of my enquiries have been dealt with sooner and there is Live Chat - so why anybody would pay for 'premium support' with JustHost is beyond me anyway.

MoreUK2 is another example, and Rackspace is a prime example of just how much people will pay.

Perception is a large part of purchasing decisions.

Justhost aren't cheap either, at £2.95/month if you prepay for 2+ years, and limits hidden in their TOS.

We have a hard enough time getting backups from their servers...

JustHost are great at marketing, there's no denying that. Their CPA-led approach listed them at the top of all of the hosting comparison sites and they built a huge business overnight. However, those CPAs don't easily allow for investment in the right infrastructure...

www.JustCloud.com from the same guys launched recently. Stay tuned.
