Three ideas but which one...

Hi all

Not sure if I need some guidance advice or just to put my ideas out there to gauge a reaction.

I have a full-time job (not related to any of what is listed below) but would like to set up a side-line in something I have a passion for and i've narrowed it down to selling the following.

A) Decent (as in £500 +) used road/mtb bikes (buy/sell ebay or similar)
B) Used motorbike leathers (jackets trousers boots etc) ebay etc
C) Decent garden furniture (locally & online)

I've researched my socks off on all three and my heart starts getting excited about world domination but then my head says 'hang on' and starts looking at actual figures and logistics etc.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Have you tryed local auctions?

I would say the bikes make the most sense if you have the skills to fix them up.

Anything that you can add value to will be your best profit earner. Its difficult to just buy something and expect it to gain a better price specially with ebay. By the time you figure in your ebay fees and carriage yourll be at the same price you paid for it.

You see that was what I was thinking, you don't need to be an expert to buy off ebay and then sell again on ebay with fingers crossed you'll make a profit.


Fixing bikes is fine, but in my mind i see that as hit or miss although that in itself may be an attractive venture alone.

I would go with selling the motorbikes as I think that garden furniture is only good for 'seasonal selling' and i also think that if I was a biker im not sure if I would buy second hand clothing.

Hi and thanks for your comment...does that means you would or wouldn't go with the motorbike clothing? or does your post read that you would sell 'motorbikes' as in the vehicle on it's own.

To be honest all three could be started on a small scale. I'd try all three..On a small scale. It may just grow on its own but you'll at least have some knowledge on which one will take more work.

Although saying that I'd prob leave out the Garden furniture. Although I think there is a forum member doing Garden stuff who may offer advice (If they dont mind some competition)

Yes I would sell the motorbikes but i personally wouldnt sell the clothing, but that's only my opinion,
Maybe you could ask a question in 'yahoo answers' to see if people would buy second hand bikers clothes, its a good place to get the views of ordinary people.
Im no expert in anything to do with business, but that's the best answer I could give you.

Stick with the bikes and biker gear. Always good money in used bike parts. As for the clothing, a decent set of leathers should sell well on ebay. Its just getting them at the right money. As is everything. Maybe do the garden furniture on the season if you know a supplier?

Re bike gear. If you do a google/ebay search for 'essex biker centre' they seem to have this niche of the market all sown up with regards to leathers... which is a shame as I had some good ideas for that.

I know all of them are easy to set up on ebay and cost little money so perhaps i'll do all three for a while and report back on the results. Then dependant on that, I can 'grow' whatever one stands out above the rest.
