I'm looking to import yoga mats from alibaba, I've found a few reasonable prices for the mats at a couple of dolars each but then the shipping costs are ridiculous. They charge me about 100 dolars to ship a few over. Is there any way to reduce the costs? Or is this typical when importing from China?

The more you buy the cheaper is the freight. You either increase your purchase volume or find a forwarding company that can offer you consolidation services.

Be very very careful about buying from a supplier listed on a site like Alibaba and do your due diligence before making any advance payment.

Yes, this is right. Check you supplier first. Be very careful if you are asked to pay to a private account or transfer the money via Western Union or Money Gram. Scammers often use these services to steal your money.

I completely agree with the other posters about the need to to carry out due diligence when buying from Alibaba. There have been cases of Fraud even with Gold suppliers who are verified and checked by Alibaba.

Coming to your question, the shipping costs completely depend on the mode of shipping you are using as well as your quantities. The higher your quantitiy, the lower your costs would be. Which method are you using currently?
