That's a very good summary but I would just add that if you 'broadcast' useful information 'reciprocal relationships' will follow (no pun intended!)

It is much like a simple RSS news feed. More so if you happen to be following news sites (obviously). It's a good way to share knowledge and news and apparently an up and coming search engine as well.
