Naked self-portraits - would you?

If you could have a naked portrait (a photo) that was altered digitally to look like modern art, and not so much like you (aside from in form) would you consider it as wall art for your home?

The reason I ask is that never in a million years would I have a naked pic of myself anywhere in my home on display, but if it wasn't obvious it was me and looked like rather tasteful, modern art, I'd consider it.

I'd consider it on the basis that at some point I will look like modern art myself (for real) so it might be nice to capture the memory of my form before it's lost for eternity. Vanity I suppose, with a teaspoon of modesty thrown in.

Anyway, I was wondering if there was a market for this more descreet form of erotic self-portrait.

Your thoughts?

Not the sort of thing I'd go for myself but if aimed at the right target market, eg: Anne Summers stores of those types of customers it could work, certainly be unique!

Well this is the thing

I think it might appeal to a wider audience than that given the fact that the pics would be sufficently altered so as not to be rude and not to be obviously the client. The client would have a nice piece of modern art that people might admire, but they'd secretly know it was themselves in the buff that was being admired.

I shall see if there is a suitable pic (with cc) I can use to demonstrate what I mean.

Yeah I got the wrong end of the stick then.
So I'd say that the look of it would need to be spot on and a good balance between the two which I think might be tricky.

If you have an example that would be great.

I once received a job application from a candidate that enclosed a photograph of one of the candidate's paintings in support of their artistic credentials. On the back of the photograph was written 'nude self portrait'.

I am able to verify that despite being a fairly abstract painting, it was a good likeness.

My only hesitation is that if it was altered so you couldn't recognise it as me (which would, obviously, be for the best!!) it would probably be cheaper etc to buy a random modern at picture of a naked form?

I might be wrong, as above, an example would be great :)

Ok as a sample of what the heck I'm on about, here is a pic of a well-known statue modified by me as per details in OP.

man10.jpg

The face is kinda obscured due to the shading and there is really nothing 'naughty' about the nude, despite it being full frontal.

Women look good part side on, as the one breast then gives a nice feminine outline.

Errrr....no offence....but....a big fat NO! :p

It would be kind of like worshipping myself having one in my house! :D

I actually really think it could work though :)

I guess the appeal of this may have something to do with ones age.

This appeals to me as I feel I will one day look like this (pic 7 in this series - sealion) and I might regret not having a nice reminder of what used to be. I do regret for example not having something to remind me of how voluminous my boobs were when I was preggers. I know this may sound odd, but if you are a guy and your P***s trebbled in size (flaccid length), you may want to capture that moment! ;)

(you may not want to hang it on the wall of course, but then neither would ie re those giant boobs ;) )

No way!

it is like worshiping yourself as biz says.

It wreaks of i love myself if you know what i mean.

It's no different to putting a photo on the wall of yourself in your fav dress/suit. Difference is you are as nature intended.

Meanwhile many people do love themselves hence the market for this step-up in the vanity market.

it's a bit footballers wives, but i actually like it.

i'd be scared to hang it anywhere visible to visitors in my house, incase they thought i wanted them to put their keys in a bowl

lol, this made me chuckle :)

I agree re that. I might get mine printed on a card for bf etc. but there must be some bold peeps out there who'd be bold enough to pop it on the wall. One could do the colours to match the decor. Black and whites in this effect look nice.

Obviously not based on me or Mrs dots and spots, but we have a large print of Matisse's 'Blue Nude' hanging in our bedroom.

I do think there is scope in this idea, the sort of thing I envisage is something like this or this where the person commissioning the artwork would think 'that's me - I was once young and beautiful' without anyone else necessarily knowing who the subject of the work is.

Yes these pics show that there are quite a few variations on the theme. Which is good as people's tastes vary. The bronze looking one would look nice in my bedroom.

I think the concept is plausible but if I think people would more likely commission an artist than have a photographer do a bit of photoshopping.

I myself created the two pics I've done so far with drawing software and photo editing suite, as oppose to photoshop. But I guess there are lots of types of software one could use.

Meanwhile re the hiring artist to draw as oppose to hiring artist to photo edit, this is a matter of pricing and a matter of convenience. Sending a photo away to be edited and returned as a nice canvas print is perhaps preferable to sitting in the buff in the cold with a stranger studying your creases. It's more accessible.

Though I think there are two markets here in what you suggest and what I propose, and the former would perhaps not be interested in my idea.

I think if you know the person... you can still make out it's them.

Reminds me of a TV documentary I watched last year about a similar thing.... Kids in the home knew it was 'mummy and daddy'.... Ages ranged from 4 to 18....

Me... I wouldn't want my child / family coming to my home and seeing me naked even if it was blurred :D

[edit] - But there is definitely a market out there for this ;) Just because I wouldn't do it... and a lot of people may disagree with it - it could be a great idea :)

I am sure there is a market for it.
I would be surprised if it was not already being done - and why not?

I agree the market's out there... what it says about them folk, I'll not comment...

As for the trigger-reason OP... I've decided to accept the changes... if you want to kick and scream, and look at what you've lost on the wall every day - knock yourself out... hope it works for you

There's always plastic surgery if it gets too much for you...

A friend of mine and mrs deadgoodundies had this done and I have to say it did look rather good.
It wasn't a full on nude rather more of a profile in black and white and nicely lighted so plenty of shadows and she has it hanging in her living room.

A lot of it comes down to how confident someone is with their own body and if they have any aversions in displaying it to the public. This friend of ours is a good example of someone who isn't shy at all with her body because as part of my duties I take photographs of our models in their underwear but i'd never shot a female so I just called her and asked I could practice on her naked and semi naked and she was up for it in a shot.

hehehe :)

It's not that bad...I just like to think ahead.

I'm a person that regrets things I didn't do rather than things I did. Don't want to find I regret not having a funkified naked pic of myself when I'm 70 of when I was....well, not 70!! :)

The arthritis will probably be a more pressing concern but you never know.

That's pretty cool. :)

I've seen 'glamour' style photos in peoples homes and they NEVER look like the host, though they're supposed to ;)

With Arthritis, actually I do!

Besides - by the time you're 70 - chances are you'll be suffering dementia - or similar, so you won't remember anyway... summat to look forward to...

My mate is a psychiatric nurse and I have her on dementia watch already. I am so dizzy it's beyond funny. I dread to think what things will be like in 30yrs.
