Naked self-portraits - would you?

But if art brings you joy then it is never expensive.

The Simon Claridge original that I had to buy recently makes the Louise Dear print look like a bargain!

I was thinking in terms of taking an image and popping it on the canvas - fee.

I would only pay more for something which couldn't so easily be replicated with no noticeable difference.

Example:

I've had a few peeps admire what they thought was my Pandora bracelet (trendy bracelet thingy..expensive for a bracelet thingy)

My bracelet does not differ in quality, design or appearance from Pandora hence the confusion. However, it differs massively in price.

My sterling silver charm bracelet complete with silver charms and glass beads cost me less than £10. The Pandora would have cost perhaps £200. Why would I pay £200 just to have a 'name' branded onto an item when I can get something so similar for a fraction of the price.

That's pretty cool. :)

I've seen 'glamour' style photos in peoples homes and they NEVER look like the host, though they're supposed to ;)

It wasn't so much what you would call a glamour style photo, I always associate those with those tacky over processed and feathered shots that some photographers do.

It was more like this shot I took today but desaturated more and some other bits done to it (not sure what).

All the pics on your website are impressive. THE most impressive menswear website on the net. I showed my bf :) .... I was hoping to inspire a change in his wardrobe.

Which leads us to the eternal Damien Hurst style 'what is art' debate!
I understand exactly what product and market you are thinking of, but to me the computer edited image printed onto canvas is no more a piece of art than a polaroid snap. (which a photographer would argue is art etc etc etc)

I think there is probably a market for what you want to do though.

Isn't that pic you said you wanted to buy a print on a canvas? It's not an original, it's a copy.

I myself have one canvas in my home, the rest of my 'art' consists of a metal and wire wall hanging, a metal wall hanging (looks like fabric) and a wooden wall hanging. Other than this it's pics I myself have shot or drawn.

So I do get your point.

I was thinking more phot self-portrait with a twist, and as a photo, it would never be in oils.

Nope, the rest of the collection are prints, the Marilyn is the original as the prints were impossible to find - all sold out.

Dig it out! That painting with frame was nearly £3k - You could be sitting on a gold mine!

I have been inspired.

My original is in a red suitcase of memorabilia in my loft, so it can be retrieved.

Meanwhile I can draw a better one no doubt. I was afterall only 16 when I drew the last one. Pencil portraits were my thing back then.

I may have a go this week. :) Undecided as to medium. Oil crayon works rather nice for this type of thing. Scans nicely too.

Not a fan of James Dean or Adam Ant are you? ;)

I quite like the whole collection, but only a few have made print. The Sophia Loren is really nice but is not yet in print, although it may be in the future.

His new Warhol style collection is really nice too. Im a big Claridge fan.

Can I ask do you buy simply because you like his work, or also in the hope they will increase in value?

Several weeks ago I went to a photo exhibition, the work was stunning. I am not overly keen on displaying photos as art work, but some of these defied belief.

I think photography has really moved on, and a good photographer is every bit as good as a good artist.

Not sure I would pay the price that some of them wanted, but still incredible artwork.

I only have the one original and I bought it because I love it. I wont be selling so it doesnt matter if it rockets in value or is worthless.

The prints wont rise in value anyway I dont think, but the same applies.

This is a beautiful fusion of traditional art and photography, they are tiny paintings photographed and magnified:

I was thinking more of my own 'priceless' ;) pastel portraits of James and Adam drawn a massive 13yrs ago, adding to their worth no doubt.

I've just edited my pastel original quickly in a photosuite to produce these results:

Oh my God how creepy is that, it's the same picture! :)

Are his copies of the original photo then edited or hand drawn like mine?

The Diamond dust collection are acrylic paintings, the ltd edition prints are girclees.

The Warhol style collection originals are traditionally made hand made screen prints and mixed media. This has yet to be released as editions so I don't know what format they will be.

i think you can have a try.
no matter whether display or not, it is a good way to record what you looks like when you are still young.
when you are in old, it can remind you of the beautiful past you have.
that's why nowadays even in China, a comparatively conservative country, many young girls are considering to find a professional photo studio to take naked photos.

I get a few brides asking for sexy, boudoir type photos to use as presents for their hubby to be on their wedding day. It's all done in secret (although I do often wonder what'll happen if hubby to be comes home to me and their partner in not many clothes!)

They're not usually reproduced as canvasses or huge prints, but more album type products.. Something to look back on (and for hubby to look forward to on the wedding night! :p)

There's a big market for it, with some studios charging a fortune for it! There's a studio in Lakeside that charges quite a lot for a small print (£60 - five years ago), I got some pics done of my wife (before I was into that side of photography) and the images were amazing, and well worth the money - the self esteem boost was worth the money alone!
