HI

am looking into starting a new online business selling gadgets, gizmos etc. because I am currently studying business and management at university I have a reasonable amount of knowledge of business and the wider business world but am very limited in resources like time and starting up capital for that reason I was thinking of using dropshippers as they make the whole process much easier and alot more cheaper than paying for my own website and holding stock or commiting to wholesellers.

Any advice would be appricicated

I do Business Management too.....and believe me....it's a load of rubbish! I doubt you will use much of it when running your company...although it might mean you can write a good business plan.

I'm not really sure about e-commerce as it isn't and area I am in.

Have you decided how you are going to run the company. Sole trader, Partnership, Ltd Company?

I would recommend speaking to an accountant as they often can point you in the right direction and suggest things you possibly hadn't thought of.

If you want any more help feel free to pm me.

:) good luck

I currently a first year student of business and management studies, in my short time at uni i have met lots of entreprenuers and business men, I would be wrong to say its complete rubbish because studying business and management will give me an edge over lets say a IT specialist starting his own business.

It is going to be a partnership hopefully and I have had quite alot of business start up training and SEOs and stuff like that but not an expert in for example web marketing and am also limited on time to actually concentrate fully on the business that is the reason I chose dropshippers

how long are you planning until you recoup the start up costs?
The start up cost will be very small if I use dropshippers I only need very few sales every month to break-even but one of my huge problems is the competition and getting traffic into my website

To bring trafic to the website is not an ease. SEO, social marketing, like twitter or facebook, affiliate programs etc. will help

I could give you the same advice that was given to me on here - Don't!

I am no trying to dampen your enthusiasm but it is such a competitive market, with so many people doing it, it is very, very, very tough and you really need a big budget to make it work. Suffice to say, i didn't...

Drop shipping is normally where you get a order from Customer, you forward the list of items required to a dropshipper along with invoice etc and they pack and dispatch the goods to the customer

You still need a e-commerce site to get the order and take the money, you need to pay the dropshipper, You need a merchant account or paypal as a PSP, you take the risk under the DSR that the customer can just return the goods to you and the dropshipper may or may not take it back but if he does he will probably charge a re-stocking charge

May be a bit more to it than you thought and you still have to get on the first few pages of google to sell your goods, how are you doing that?

With dropshipping you will need to find a good dropshipper otherwise you will lose customers instead of gaining them.
Affiliate marketing is good as you promote other people stuffs. You could also consider network marketing. I've being doing it for a few months now and it's great and you get results!
