Telemarketing/Telesales rates?

Hi All,

I have quite a number of clients interested in having telesales/telemarketing services to assist with selling their products. I have browsed around a little to check rates but would appreciate if you can let me know of anyone you know and how they charge and how much on average?

We can look at working on paying a commission only plan or paying a flat fee per hour/day etc. Thanks

I used a company called Telegence. They created a bespoke deal whereby we paid £150 per appointment against a set criteria. It didn't work out - I paid up front for some leads and some data. Only a small percentage of leads matched the set contract and some leads were blown out. I never received my data either.

I approached them for a refund and the MD said he had reviewed the leads and they did match the contract plus they have completed many successful campaigns for other companies etc etc

He's now threatening legal action if I don't pay a recent invoice but since all but one of the meetings were blown out and they haven't given me the data I purchased there's no way I'm going to hand over more cash.

It's a shame as one of the contacts at Telegence (lady called Selina) was fantastic but the rest of their crew didn't match up.

Calls per day are important, you could as a rule of thumb say 100. However 100 calls per day to the wrong type of companies are utterly useless. The other thing to note is that it can take more than 5 calls to reach a prospect, so persitance is a must for any campaign.

Thanks Jonathan, I understand quality is important but that is an average of £1.80 per call, and £900 per week for a 5 day campaign, is this for just 1 person or multiple?

1 person, we would also never do a 5 day in a row "1 off" campaign. It would always be spread over a month, in order to reach as many people as possible. (eg the contact is out of the office or on holiday). In fact to get the best return on investment 1 month wouldn't be enough. A three month campaign is usually the minimum, lots depends on the sales proposition, who you are trying to reach, the type of industry and the geographical area.

Hi it also depends what the call is about, doing 100 calls a day selling PAT testing is easily achievable, but doing 100 calls a day selling delegate seats, and getting to speak to Marketing directors, etc, or following up information, call times will take longer.

Seems like a good price to me. If you make far more in sales from the telemarketing than the cost of it, then it's always going to be a good price.

I agree with Telemax - there are other factors to the campaign that may make a diferrence but ball park for us is £150 per day. We would also offer a trial to see what results are achieved and then look at the possibility of changing the payment structure so everyone is happy!

I didn't actually realize how much it was, I have worked in sales for 13+ years but never investigated the costs of a freelance telesales/telemarketing firm. £150+ per day means £750+ per week minimum and as a telemarketer seems like a pretty awesome salary. I understand the rep is not getting this much as you are covering costs for the business etc. Never the less, I am going to consider offering these services to my clients so will be seeking partners for the business in the near future who can offer this. Like Telemax, we tend to charge per call.

The reasons are that

1. We can show the calls took place, so can demonstrate what the client pays for
2. It pays for the time of the telemarketer, so relates to our main costs
3. We can accurately estimate our costs to give accurate quotes, which is very hard with pay per lead billing
4. The client gets all the results - not just appointments, but future leads, information requests, update, competitor information - as they pay fgor the cals not the leads

Th other issue with lead based billing is the issue noted above - defining what constitutes a lead - and what happens if they then cancel.

The numbers stack up a lot better if the product or service has a large value. ie plus £1k

Bear in mind that these aren't just ordinary sales script telemarketers. For that price I'd expect absolute professionals who are skilled in telemarketing. It's a huge difference compared to some barely trained individual who reads from a document.

Thankfully this always ends up relating to more sales. Low budget telemarketers work on mass-numbers to get sales, whilst pro telemarketers rely on meticulously working with lower numbers for a far higher return in-terms of percentage.

Phillipines. You will be amazed at the professionalism, attitude and preparation of some of this people.

Hire a freelancer and have her be your Virtual Assistant and sales agent. Spend a week or so working with her, discussing your goals, ideas and milestones by phone and have her feel a key part of your business.

If you go this route you can expect to pay 400euro per month for a dedicated person that is incredibly motivated, and works 8 hours/day for a full month. Not only on telemarketing, but organizing, taking care of your customer orders and making your life easier.

This is a useful thread on telemarketing

The other point to bear in mind is the sales value of your product or service.

I suggest a sales campaign value of around £1000+ in a campaign, in order to
justify using telemarketing to promote it. Though it may be a justified spend (for lower value campaigns) to raise your profile at the outset if your new to the market.

That doesn't mean each individual product or service must be £1k+ But rather the sales target for the campaign across all customers should be at or above that value. So if your individual product is say £100, then you'd have a sales target of ten sales in that campaign, but if the product price was £20, you'd need to make fifty sales, so it becomes much harder to achieve at this lower priced end.

In that way you can begin to see how to make best use of telemarketing as a promotional tool, and justify the investment.
