Hi all:

Having made pretty well every mistake in the book with my first website, I'm close to completing my new site. This is due to go live in mid-September, together with the second release of my software.

I'd appreciate any feedback you have - specifically whether the Home page is clear enough - does it tell you what my product does?

A couple of points to note:

2) The Guided Tour is still "in production" - so is not there yet (same applies to the Getting Started tutorials). However, I believe the static pages should sell by themselves...

Thanks, Peter

Hi Peter,

First thing - in the second paragraph your missing a word, you've put "If you know how network effectively" it doesn't make sense.

I also felt a bit overwhelmed when I went to your website. It is great that it is interactive and that is definetely something to keep. There was just to much to look at and read. On the internet if people think something is going to be confusing on time consuming then they will leave and find something that is helps them as opposed to something that gives them more work.

I would take the customer rewards thing off your home page as this is only applicable to people who actually buy your product or are interested. Save it for a follow up email at a later date to your existing customers. Or put it in your menu but it is just as another option. It is jsut another thing a person might "have to read" before they buy your product and it isn't really relevant to all your customers.

The most important thing is to make sure you have a website that is able to convert to sales and once this is done you can concentrate on marketing your website and capturing emails of potentials.

You might also want to consider another product to offer all your existing customers as they already have a relationship with you so will be far more likely to buy from you again and again.

I hope this helps.

All The Best

J

I looked at your current home page and then looked at the new one, and was let down and for one major reason - the logo and theme. Your logo is very prominent and bright on the home page, and yet in the revised design, it's hard to spot and completely goes against the design. You could produce something fantastic by using the colours in your logo and going with that route, but instead you've taken a completely different direction.

I'd say that it's busy, but not too busy (as many others), but parts you want to stand out don't. Only because I'm giving a review can I comment on some areas, as initially I wouldn't have spotted them, with one being the Guided Tour. Why? Because I'm reading the first visible thing on the page, and following it across. And when I come across the first thing of interest that seems to correspond to what I went onto your website, I'll go onto that page.

I'd change the top image as well, as it doesn't seem to add anything but a distraction to the overall design. Go with brighter colours that compliment your logo and lead people to where you want them to go. Imagine it more like an "L", with the text going down, and then across. At the moment it's more like a "T".

I don't get it.

I've no real idea what this does or how it would add value to my life.

You describe it as a:

"companion for Microsoft Outlook that allows you to create a graphical model of your network using Outlook's existing contacts folders."

I'm guessing here - and I'll hold my hands up and admit I've not put the legwork into the market research to back up what I'm about to say - but I'm going to suggest that there's not a lot of people thinking "if only I could crate a graphical model of my network".

That's not to say what you've created isn't really useful. I've no idea ...

... And that's the problem.

John Carlton, the famous American copywriter, talks about getting into the "conversation already going on in your prospect's head".

I don't think you're not doing that. I don't think you're not connecting with the words and ideas that the prospect is using to describe this problem he has.

You may well be talking about the same thing, but I reckon you're using different words. And the words you are using are sufficiently different that he is unlikely to quickly connect them and stay around on your site to learn more.

Of course, as I've not done the market research, I might be dead wrong on this.

In which case, ignore everything I've said!

Hope this helps.

A bit of search engine marketing advice - you know the fact that you've posted a link the home.htm page on here means it will probably get crawled by the search engines which, maybe you dont want yet?

Just thought I'd let you know - I had a client that got 3 orders the other week on an ecommerce site that wasn't meant to be live yet!
