apparently there is a cool thing you can plug into an ipad which does the same thing. I can't remember the name of it, but costs you £30 or so and you get £30 of transactional credits with it, so ends up being free. worth looking into maybe depending on scale of your transactions.

Hi there
There official name is PDQ machines and there are a lot of deals around at the moment, it all depends on the size of the company you can go for pay as you go machines like the HuddleBuy search them on google it is an attachment that adds onto your iphone to make it into a PDQ manchine or there are 3G PDQ machines that usually have a 4 year contract my machine is from CardSafe and it is a 1 year contract and costs arounbd £20 per month.
Ideal, if you are interested more PM me and i can give you their details.. Let me know if you go with the HuddleBuy as my sister is looking at one too.

Hi there,

I just wanted to clarify that what we are offering is an exclusive FREE PAYG mobile card reader and a free mobile site for iPhones/iPads in partnership with iZettle (which is part-owned by Amex and MasterCard).
The readers are iZettle readers and not Huddlebuy readers.
These readers are normally sold in T-Mobile and Orange stores for £20.
We are also giving a mobile site for free to those who get these readers from us and activate them.

This is an exclusive deal available only through Huddlebuy.
Over 32,000 UK businesses have already signed up for this offer.

More details here.

You don't need to pay anything for this stuff and you don't need to sign up for any contracts.

Get onto the Worldpay trial here https://mobile.worldpay.com/

No fees, no set up costs, no commitment and no upfront charges. 65p for debit cards and 3.3% for credit cards.

A similar one from Elavon http://www.tellmemore.elavon.com/mobilemerchant/ is £99 to "buy" and 2.95% across the board, which is better for credit cards but quite a bit worse at my average sale for debit cards.

I've both but I'm using the Worldpay now (got it 2nd). Links to Android and Blackberry with Apple coming later I understand.

I also use Gocardless https://gocardless.com/features for emailed service payments by direct debit. Can't beat 1% at my levels without up front loading and costs.

I looked at izettle but the lack of security surrounding them not having a PIN feature was off-putting.

http://help.izettle.com/customer/portal/articles/531185-why-doesn’t-izettle-use-pins-#

Why doesn't iZettle use PINs?

According to EMV (the global standard for chip-card payments) there are several methods for verifying a cardholder. One is PIN and another is signature. We use the signature method since PIN is currently not accepted for mobile devices.

The reason for this is that PIN entry must only be conducted on PIN entry terminals that are certified as compliant with the Payment Card Industry PIN Transaction Security (PCI PTS) requirements. Currently, the keypads or touch screens on mobile devices are not capable of complying with the PCI PTS requirements.

Thanks for the replies,
My average transactions would be £50-£150 with occasional £15 transaction.

I'm only a small business part time at the moment, not Sure if I should buy, rent or get a mobile one. Obviously security is a big thing so defiantly want good security.

I think most people have debit cards as some of the local shops around my area only accept debit cards no credit cards.

How do these work anyway with the payment, do the send it straight to your bank account I understand it normally takes a few days

Talah has given you the links which is the hard bit. You now need to read the terms and conditions for each one as the settlement times vary a lot according the provider, card type and the way the payment is taking.

the only problem with izettle and every other similar device is that they cant currently process visa payments in the normal way.

to process a visa payment your put the customers phone number in and they get sent a link to a page to make payment from their phone.. so its next to useless.

And the likes of sumup give the little devices for free anyway..

But the worldpay is currently the best offering out there.

I use a mobile chip and pin via stramline and worldpay its basically a card machine with a mobile phone in it to transmit the payment securley it takes all cardsand costs around £60 per month rental etc

for me its worth it to project the correct image as i do shows etc via a mobile stall and customers need to know they can pay securley but you will also need to do the PCI DSS to ensure your systems are secure

I'm not sure WorldPay is the best offering as their chip & pin device relies on bluetooth connectivity with your mobile phone to get a signal.

Whereas Payatrader.com offers a pocket GPRS chip& pin terminal for £3.00 pw +VAT - so no need to pair with a mobile phone to get a signal. Also, uses SMS receipting. Rates are 2.3% to 2.9%.

Also, once you've opened an account with Payatrader, you get a button for your website, a free virtual terminal for telephone payments, mobile phone payments, email payments and a 24/7 payments line - all included.

The chip & pin is an account add-on if you need it.

I use the worldpay system for shows and its excellent (currently in pilot still)

Costs nothing to have sitting on the side for when we need it, no monthly fees and transaction charges are actually ok for the low volume we use it for when out of the office. :)

I cant see how the chap above can say his system is better, it costs more and the only downside he came up with was needing a mobile signal to use the worldpay system.....but then the paytader system is GPRS which is mobile signal based :|

smo: actually, what Payatrader said was that you don't need to pair the Paytrader device with a mobile phone via bluetooth, before connecting via GPRS...

Darren: When will your mobile payment solution be available?

All of which takes a few seconds and you only ever have to do it one.

Where it the hardship in that ?

When you want to boot it up, it is already paired and simply needs to connect, which it does as it powers up in nanoseconds. Any talk of pairing with your mobile being a limitation is unfounded.
