I have been using Worldpay for 3 years now - processing cards by phone, online on my websites and a physical PDQ machine.

I'm getting annoyed at the "premium charges" we are paying every month.

Worldpay claim to send me details of these every month - though all I get is a csv file with no headings etc.

I had an email conversation with them and they inform me these Premium charges cover things like customer not present and foreign cards - as their risk is much higher with these payments.

However, every time we get a charge back (3 in 3 years), we provide enough evidence to fill a filing cabinet but Worldpay ALWAYS refund the money.

So, why am I paying Premium Charges?

Ideas anyone?

Bottom line - you are paying additional charges because you agreed to them, however, they might not have been highlighted to you when you signed up.

Non PCI compliance, transaction fees and minimum monthly services charges are ways to get 'hidden' revenue.

Have you called WP and asked them?

I recommend to everyone to contact their supplier and renegotiate their rates every 6 months. Some you will will, some you will not.

You can also speak to other companies to get them to compare your bill to others or just say if they can beat it for you, something that members of some organisations, including Your Business Community, would love to do.

Having previously worked for Worldpay for several years I maybe able to offer some guidance.

Premium Charges can be used to describe any charge other than the core transaction fee and equipment rental ,maybe some of the below look familiar from your statement?
Minimum monthly service charge (MMSC) (Up to £25 a month with Worldpay)
PCI / DSS compliance and non-compliance fees ( Typically £9.99 - £24.99 a month with Worldpay)
Authorisation fees (Worldpay typically 3.75p on each transaction)
Premiums for ‘card not present’ transactions
Premium Card Charges
Plus statement fees and other misc charges.

I would strongly recommend reviewing the service as I often find savings of 30%-40% can be obtained. Simple rule with your merchant statement take the total amount processed and if the TOTAL cost is more than 1% you need it reviewing urgently!
