Our local council magazine has an advert for work-az.com

It a side-hustle (sic) app where people can post jobs and you can bid for the work. An interesting concept but not something I've seen before. Anyone here come across the business? Has anyone used it?

Isn't that the same as Upwork or Fiverr? Or are we talking about physical jobs?

There are many kinds of jobs. See the bottom of their home page:

The app is free to use until 31/07/2022. After this, a commission of 5% of the price of each job is taken. Payments must be made via the app. Sounds more than reasonable.

I thought about such a side-hustle app about two years ago - as a side-hustle! I wrote to my local council about the idea thinking that I might get some funding, but I didn't get a reply.

Anyway, I wish them all the best with this. I might even sign up for a few odd jobs within a couple of miles radius of my home. I could get on my bike and lose some of this beer belly!

EDIT: The app can be installed from:

or:

(App Store link is from the WorkAZ site, but doesn't seem to be working for me.)

Installed the app and signed up. Doesn’t appear to be hugely popular as there aren’t any jobs on offer. Might be different where you are.

It’s been around since 2019 according to companies house.

That will be a very difficult business model for them to keep going. One thing UpWork and other platforms rely on is, all communications go through them and they make it as difficult as possible to go "off-platform" with future work. That way they get a cut of all repeat business. It will be impossible to stop dog walkers and car washers from going "off-platform" and cutting the platform out.

So they will get a cut of the first dog walk (say 5% of £10) and nothing else. That dog walker will probably carry on walking their dog for months maybe years to come. I can see that happening with most jobs advertised on there.
