Wordpress tags still relevant?

About 10 years ago when I made my website using wordpress I would add tags to every post I wrote and would spam it with keywords like every noob does, just like I would do with meta keywords. I even had one of those tag clouds on my footer. Anyway, I havent used tags for years and when I did they were a bit spammy. So, do they still matter? Should I go back and 'clean up' my old post tags? I could noindex the tags if that helps? Or is it just not important enough?

There good reasons why sometimes they are useful and that depends a little on how the site has been built. But if the tag pages serve no real purpose, you will have a bunch of extra pages and potentially dupe content that would be holding you back potentially. I generally tend to remove/avoid them unless there is a specific purpose for them.

Bin the tags. No point in even having them on the site.

What are those "specific purposes" you've found? Because I've found no modern use for them.
