Hi Guys i'm new to the forum and was wondering if anybody can help me. I currently have a website i built myself for my online sign and printing store. I have been using cheap hosting i purchased from ebay but i have decided to get my website redesigned and get some SEO work done on it. Both my web designer and seo guys have had problems uploading files to server and recommended i change my hosting company. My traffic numbers are not great at the moment so i don't think i would need a dedicated server but would like something with good speeds and allows me to grow as my website does. Can anybody recommended a hosting company for my needs ?

Many Thanks
Dan

You are hosted by GoDaddy. They aren't the best host but their cpanel is pretty good. So I suspect you are looked after by a reseller.

You don't need a dedicated server, you just need better hosting. My vote goes with Openmind Hosting - I've been using them for years and their service is excellent.

Top Tip, use a .co.uk domain not a .com - much better for UK searches.

Matthew : TekHive Hosting

Hello Dan, welcome to the forums! :)

Purchasing web hosting via ebay isn't a great idea, same with going with an EIG brand such as bluehost is not the best advice. I would stay well clear from any EIG brand you can do a simple google search for reasons why.

Another tip is stay clear of any Unlimited web hosts, or web hosts which offer 500gb disk space for £2 month. These are unrealistic packages and are simply a marketing gimmick to attract you, these tend to always cause you problems down the line with your account being suspended for server abuse.

Have a search around before you make any decisions, if you're looking for any advice in choosing the right hosting for you please let me know and I will be glad to help.

Best regards,
Matthew

Err, no it's not.

It's cheap tacky hosting. Which is why you are on a shared server with 3000 other websites in Arizona.

Get yourself some decent hosting in the UK. The signal you are sending at the moment is you don't care about your online business - if you aren't prepared to invest in decent hosting then how can I trust you to do a good job on my banner.

Where do you get that from? I have used 5 different tools and got 4 Heart and 1 Webfusion (which owns Heart). Supercool Hosting is just a bedroom cupboard reseller. Godaddy is only the registrar
Here is a record of the ownership of ns.mainnameserver.
None of which helps the OP who is on crappy ultra cheap reseller hosting from a bedromm entrepreneur. He should change to a decent host and .co.uk as above.

As an aside, why on earth did you trust your business to a cheap ebay dealer? Surely alarm bells should have started to ring when you saw the price?

Because they are cheap. People use them because they don't see the value in using decent hosting - in the same way they believe 1and1 adverts for websites.

Hi Dan,

You'll certainly get better performance moving to a new web host.

It's best to have the server located as close to your target visitors as possible, so it's a good idea to make sure you go for UK web hosting assuming you're targeting UK clients.
This gives you better performance for those visitors which in turn can benefit your ranking.

As you're just starting out, an affordable web hosting package such as ours should serve you well.

However if you're looking at running an online store and want an SSL certificate to secure that store to give confidence to your visitors then an eCommerce hosting package can be a good idea and can work out more cost effective.

In either case any decent host will let you upgrade as your business grows with no impact to service, so starting out on a solid starter package with a good web host can be a good and cost effective way to get started.

We've been hosting a number of UKBF members for years and we'd be happy to help you.

If you have any questions feel free to get in touch. The best way is generally through our website.

All the best.

Good luck!

Dan

I can add the following.

I have dealt with Phil from Openmind a few times (not as a customer but when working with his customers) and have found them good. I have a hosting plan with Dan From Hi Hosting and have found his service and support top drawer. (I have about a dozen hosting plans in total). Both of these hosting companies have been mentioned above, and as I say, I can only relay my personal experiences with them. (apologies to the other guys who I have not had dealings with).

Hi just a question if supercool are a reseller for heart hosting, are there servers in the uk and the same standard as what heart sell on there website ? also how would i know if any new company i choose are not doing the same thing.

Yes that'll mean their servers are in the UK. You'll likely get the same performance as the normal shared hosting Heart provide, which isn't great. Heart also use a terrible proprietary control panel.

Provided you're given control panel access then it's a similar service, but you'll also only be getting support from what sounds to be a pretty dodgy host. Heart themselves aren't great for support, and your host may well not know what they're doing, so the delay in getting a resolution or decent response to anything you need help with can be quite large.

If you go with a good UK web host with a decent reputation then you'll likely not end up with a dodgy reseller as you have.

You can also run URLmetrics on their site: http://urlm.co.uk/
And then do a google search for the nameserver entries you find there.

And don't worry, it's great that you're asking these questions. Too many simply think of the big names they see on TV and end up with low quality oversold hosting, generally in the US!

If you need any help then just let us know

I can confirm that I have had issues with Heart in the past for their support. I currently use Site5 which is far better and their shared hosting is one of the best I have used, but I would stay away from Heart until they get themselves sorted. I know they have been a bit unlucky with the amount of DDoS attacks they have received, but they should be aware that they can happen and have something in place.
