I have two blogs, both on Wordpress but the one l use mainly is a mess & apparently the coding is difficult to effect changes.

My question is, would it be easier to start afresh & how easy would it be to transfer everything over. The site is www.whenninametellie.co.uk

What is it that you are exactly wanting to achieve?

Are you looking to change the look and feel of the website/blog? If you have some basic understanding of HTML/CSS then you can make changes. However, it's best to have a child theme where all the customisation takes place so if you ever updated the parent theme, you don't lose your changes.

If you were to start over again, it is very simple to export all the blog content and then import it into the new website/theme.

You can use the WP import and export tool.

I would much rather keep the theme l have, but l cannot make the changes required because of the coding (l don’t understand that, just been told).

There are pics missing, the header on some of the pages are awful & the text needs proper margins. TBH, the design is pretty awful but by main website is directed to this site which l believe boosts it’s DR!

I'm not sure about the DR boost. You need to look at the bounce rate in Google Analytics to see how long people are spending on the website.

If you have the time and are willing to learn basic HTML/CSS I would recommend having a look at Freecodecamp on YouTube, they have loads of video tutorials that will help you.

I'm not sure which theme you are using but take a look at all the theme options, if the theme has online documentation somewhere, I would suggest giving it read over.

If you don't personally have the skills to rebuild then you will need to hire someone who does. It is very difficult to say exactly how hard it will be to make changes to your current theme without access to the admin to know which theme is currently used and if you are using any sort of page builders like elementor or not. It could be your whole theme is hard coded with few options for customisation without delving into the code itself.

The nice thing about using something like elementor and a clean theme is that the template design part and sitewide changes to layout can be made visually without needing to access the code layer behind it. An alternative might be to find a theme you really like and try swapping to it and see what is broken or needs tweaking.

Hard to say without looking at the code but we'd be happy to rebuild them in a CMS called Concrete if you'd prefer which is much better and easier to use than WordPress.

Everything is fixable. It’s just that some fixes are more complicated (expensive) than others. I suspect the problem you have is someone who isn’t as skilled as they think they are.

You'd most likely be better with one website unless you have 2 registered businesses. Why?
Easier to update and maintain.

WordPress is a great and versatile platform for beginners and the advanced alike. Most websites in the world are built on WordPress, and We wouldn't recommend any other platform for a small company.

Be very careful about who you approach to develop your site though, you don't want an "off the peg theme" you want a special theme that suits your brand and ethos.

Dont be tempted to DIY the site, Go cheap, pay twice. Better to get a range of quotes from professionals. Web hosting is something to consider too.

if its proving to difficult to fix then my advice would be to bite the bullet and swap themes but first make sure its not a plugin that causing the issues.

Why not? You are using a theme that comes with your hosting. All they have done is bung Elementor on to fix the styling. Which makes your site look like a zillion others.

That's a very negative comment. I'm actually trying to help other users.

The theme is done by the host who's also my web guy. We used Elementor because when it's done by someone who knows how to do it, not me....it gives plenty of versatility.

So when I say "off-the-peg theme". I meant without alteration.

For years I was against using builders like Elementor. When I sat down with Ash, my dev, he showed be some examples of where he's made it work very well.

With regard to looking like a zillion other sites. It's subjective. I really don't care that much about the look so long as it matches the BRAND.

My company does very well thanks, the website generates lots of leads and phone calls. So it does its job. I've seen hundreds of great-looking websites but they rarely convert. It's no good being good-looking if you don't deliver what the customer is looking for.

Functionality is more important than aesthetics. IMO Best to try to strike a balance.

Most of which will have a customiser where you can change colours and styling and blocks let you change the layout without having to use a page builder. I understand what you are trying to say but the there a thousands of themes all with all sorts on customisation options. There is no need to have a custom theme created for your business.

Yes. But the theme you use is mostly irrelevant. That’s the point I’m trying to make. I’ve done loads of testing on this and for one site with thousands of daily visitors switching the theme made zero difference.
