Hi Guys and girls,

I have currently desgined a website and whilst it includes everything i want and all linked up correctly, it lacks the professional touch so i am hiring a website designer to just tweak the design. I am using the WIX platform for my website.

When hiring the web designer do i need to give them my log on details? I havent made my website live yet so they cant get any personal details such as bank details but what if when i take the website back once the project is complete will there be a risk of them being able to log into the WIX management account even if i change the password? There must be a safer way of doing it as this mst happen all the time?

Thanks,

Laura

I don't know much about WIX but there should be an option to create a sub account for the designer to log into and start designing, an account where they can't delete or modify the primary account holder's (your) log in details. Do this first then back up all your files somewhere off the server. This way if anything bad happens with the designer, you'll be able to suspend their access and backup your files very quickly. Ask a WIX rep if this is possible.

Laura,

I doubt a web designer will be able to do much with your site. Wix doesn't give you control needed to tweak the design. And because of how Wix works your only practical option is to give them access with your login. If you then change the password they will no longer be able to access the site.

But I'd advise not using Wix for a business website. You will struggle to get it working properly and, more importantly, convert. It's certainly not going to rank well for anything.

Hello, i am a web developer. As the others above have said/implied, there is nothing in Wix that a professional can "steal". The product is simply of too low quality. It's like worrying that giving access to your kitchen to a professional chef will allow them to steal your hot dog recipe.

Payment details and credit cards should not be visible to anyone, including you, so again there's not much to steal. Furthermore, in the worst case scenario you can always send them a copy of your ID (original name on file) and they will reinstate, at least this is how it works on most online services.

But in any case, when you wish to assign work to someone else, a leap of faith is necessary. If you have reason to mistrust said developer then simply don't hire them.

In the list of reasons to avoid Wix i will add that it's also not cost effective. You pay too much for what you're getting.

Good luck

Hi all
Having just read all of the above negatives towards wix, I have to say I have a wix website and after a couple of years feel it is not doing a lot and rarely get any sales from it.

I know they have now added the coding feature which I could pay someone to do for me to add extra features etc but tbh i'm not very optimistic.

Can anyone advise on any DIY website that are more likely to rank higher etc or a decent companyy that wont cost the earth?

It really depends on what sort of site you want. If it's ecommenrce you could use Shopify but you pay monthly. Or you could use wordpress with woocommerce which is free but getting it to work properly may need to pay for helkp.

If it's just a lead generating site then a simple wordpress site is cheap and relatively easy to set up.

Need some more info on what exactly you want. Best if you start a new thread in tenders.
