Arseholes! No wonder they're offering "free" upgrades. They want you to give up with Windows 7/8 license which is now free for life and purchase their subscription OS.

This must surely be shooting yourself in the foot. Buyers are faced with the two options:

    1) Buy a macbook pro, you keep the OS for life, The macbook will last 6 years minimum

    2) Buy a cheap windows laptop. But you have to pay £60 a year to keep your OS.In the long run if you keep your laptop for 4 years you'll end up paying the same as a macbook pro but have a much crappier hardware and OS.

If they do try to move to a subscription model for the OS, which as far as have read they are not going to do. I´d just install ubuntu,

Thats not going to be the solution for some people who need a windows OS for specific programs, but it would solve the issue for heaps of people who just using the Internet and email.

Have Apple changed recently and started to produce stuff that has some substance to the style?

In my experience their products look good, but only sort of work, and only some of the time.......

I am sure others will disagree.... ;-)

Mind you not very keen on Microsoft mucking about with their revenue stream as is being suggested above..

regarding the subscription model. The whole annual fee thing is purely based on the CEOs comment describing windows as a service. Bloggers have interpreted that to mean software as a service which is usually a subscription service.

Microsoft has denied that there will be annual licensing for Windows. http://www.pcgamer.com/microsoft-windows-10-will-not-be-sold-as-a-subscription/

Perhaps the use of the word service to describe Windows is more towards MS's vision for the OS. More dynamic and integrated into the web than a standalone operating system.

my question is you trust people enough to invite them in your house, but you don't trust them enough to use your internet. why?

Its not just the people you invite in though, It´s also everyone in their contact list.
So think about a small apartment block, You invite john in and give him your WIFI password,
John has Mary from the apartment below yours in his contact list. Now Mary has access to your Internet.

    From this article:
    http://www.theguardian.com/technolo...tions-about-free-upgrade-microsoft-windows-10

    Will Windows 10 expire?

I read somewhere that the free upgrade to Windows 10 will expire after one year and that the user will then have to pay for the upgrade. Is this so? Alasdair

No, that’s completely wrong. Once you have installed Windows 10 and made a note of your product key, it’s yours forever. Well, you can use it until Microsoft stops supporting it, which is usually 10 years.

The OS will remain free (probably), where MS is going to make their money is by pushing a load of apps and features. See solitaire for example, if you want the ad free version you need to pay.

The apps will appear on your PC via autoupdates, you won't be able the remove them and you will get constant nags for upgrade to the paid version.

Nonetheless, Win10's usability and overall feelings about system are great. Maybe I think so because I had a chance to get it using Microsoft's student program :D and most likely it's free for me forever

We have done updates on several devices including Surface Pro 2 back in September.
In general, there were found multiple issues with Upgrade itself, Wifi, sound, etc. For most of them workaround and fixes can be applied, but there are still some errors that can be resolved by Microsoft updates only.

Some things might not be bugs or errors, they were just poorly designed. For example, photos app seems to be the very nice application. But only to find out that albums feature is a cat in a bag. In short, application examines your photos and creates albums by date taken, it randomly fills those albums with photos by date taken and puts a cover photo for an album. Unfortunately, it put only select photos in that album. If you decide to add more photos to an album, you will have to check each and every photo you want to add manually. It’s fine if it’s just ten photos, but what if it is 400 photos you want to add??? If you have 600 photos taken that day, Microsoft will only add 300 to that specific album, and you will have to add manually other 300 one by one for them to show in that album

Turning off Windows defender or changing default search engine in their new browser EDGE requires lots of steps to be performed before you succeed.

Regarding Win 10 on Surface, it became less comfortable on the tablet than it was with Win 8. Looks like Microsoft tried to look for some compromise between desktop and tablet usability.

As a result, most of the device were rolled back to the Win 8 and 7. two devices stay on Win 10 just to keep track of what updates are released and testing.
