I recall during the last World Cup, our sales took a nosedive. Did anyone else find the same?

I found it surprising as I didn't think our customers were the kind of people who would be particularly interested in the World Cup, but watching it is an activity people do with their friends, and takes time away from other leisure activities.

It really depends on the industry. Currently, my companies are in B2B, so I don't see any up/down effect due to the World Cup.

However, when I ran a portfolio of online games, we had traffic drop significantly during World Cups and Olympics as people were busy watching those instead of playing the games. Likewise, when I managed a ad platform with mainly games and entertainment websites our revenue dropped. However, as world cups are normally played in summer it's hard to quantify how much of the drop was due to the world cup and how much due to the usual summer website traffic drop.

In my old high street retailing days I would have said yes we defiantly saw a change in footfall & cliental, ie more females out shopping on their own and turnover on a whole would drop.
Strangely enough we were talking about this at the weekend ie who watches the matches these days, is it about equal now. A show of hands in the restaurant and 8 out of 8 said they had no interest in watching it whatsoever.

Will be interesting to see if it detracts from the build up to Christmas shopping pattens on the high street this year.

Well you can tell how interested I am in football I've just had to look up when it finishes ...... 18th December, the wife is already going mad as its interfered with her usual nightly programs. Dealing with the latter and having to do some Christmas shopping ill be a basket case by Christmas.
