Wifi question

My boss wants to know personal thongs about me.....he has asked for login details to my personal website so he can see what i know......i ignored the question. He set up a work google diary and that somehow linked to my personal one which i shut down
He is coming to my house and wants to use my internet on his laptop using my wifi. I am not technical he is
Om not comfy with this
Am i being paranoid or could he access all my personal info with my wifi passwords

How can i get round this and am i just being too cautious...i dont know internet things well enough to know

As no-one seems to be answering your question the answer is "no" he cannot access your files just using your wifi to connect up to the internet on his own laptop but for your own peace of mind keep your own computer switched off whilst he is there.

Why is he coming to your house to use your wifi though as it's very strange behaviour unless he has an ulterior motive

No, he won't be able to access your files using your wifi, .
Unless you are sharing your device with anyone on the network.

However, I'd still tell the boss to poke it - don't let him anywhere near your wifi or any of your accounts.

At the risk of sounding rude, something doesn't sound right here, almost as if this isn't the whole story, anyway.......

1) I take it you work from home? (otherwise why would the boss want to come to your house?)
2) why would you have login details for your personal website? don't quite follow that one.
3) Not entirely sure I'd feel comfortable with my boss visiting me at my home. Unless you know him REALLY well??
4) if he wants to use your Internet, fine.... except I'd change the wifi password afterwards (AFAIK you will only have ONE wifi password)
5) Also, while he's there, once connected, he could access whatever you are sharing, so to be on the safe side, switch your computers off temporarily, so he can't access anything.

As others have said though, this doesn't sound right at all.
Would you care to elaborate on my points above???

As has been said already, this sounds unusual to say the least.

Would you give this person your PIN for your bank account so they can see your financial status? I don't think so. If you have a personal web site, surely this can be seen without login details? Your machines are your personal property accessing them without permission would be illegal.

If he wants access to your site to see a sample of code, let him have a sample by copy -and-paste into a notepad file, but never allow anyone access to your online passwords. I would change my WiFi before he arrived, and change it back again afterwards - depending on how many machines you have on the network. If the other machines can't connect because of the first password change then he can't view them. Don't bring your machine up onto the network. If you need to share information, use a USB stick and don't allow access into any public folders on any personal machine.

If the company has supplied the machine you are in a different ball game. Personally I would also say while he is browsing the Internet from your WiFi, keep a close eye on what is being viewed.

Definitely sounds dodgy to me!! He doesn't need the admin password to your website to "see what you know"!! If he wants to 'see what you know', he should ask you to apply your talents to his business goals and not take a personal interest to your activities outside of work hours.

David suggested removing the site... Personally, I'd leave the site live as bringing it down, may lead to further questioning/scrutiny!

While its good that he is showing an interest in what you do outside of work... the way in which he seems to be going about it is all wrong.

Good luck with it.

Yes he would be able to acess files on you laptop that is if your laptop is set up to share files openly over your home network which is unlikely if you did not specify it to.
It is unlikely he would have the knowledge to be able to get passed the safeguards in place but you never know. it is very strange that he would come to your house to acess the internet i would air on the side of caution and when he comes over to use it make sure all your devices have there wifi turned off so he would not be able to acess them.

hope this helps

Yes, sharing your Wifi password MAY reveal your devices to him depending on what network setting you have used. Also, if you haven't changed your router password from the default supplied (as the deafult is always something simple like admin/admin and are availble with simple searches ) then it is easy enough to access your router and change setting that will enable external access to devices on your WiFi

Wouldn't it be good if the forum could automatically stop people with less than 200 posts (or anyone maybe) opening a thread that has been quiet for a month.
It would be great. But considering the complete lack of any useful forum development I suspect this isn't going to happen.
