Good morning everyone, I'm a new business startup and I'm looking for great wholesale suppliers, food, and electronics.

Where do corner shops and traders normally purchase their supplies?

Thank you for your help!

We have an independent shop and most of our suppliers are on the Internet. There are some wholesale portals that offer a variety of products (Creoate, Faire) and then there are specialists who focus on particular products like electronics , jewelry, sports equipment (Second Chance Sport).

Unless you have big buying power, you are most likely looking at buying from a local wholesale, such as Bookers.

Really good suppliers are very closely guarded secrets, I once found a great new range I wanted to sell, it took me six weeks to track the company down through trade contacts, no website, no advertising, just a plain white door on a trading estate in Barking. Normally I can find a company within five minutes.

To look at that single white door, you would never believe many guys were employed shifting a hell of a lot of stock, you wouldn’t give it a second look normally. Worth the effort though.

Sounds like my business, didn't have a website until a couple of years ago. And now a very basic one at that. And only did for credibility with new suppliers mostly; when you are claiming to be able to spend a lot of money then without a website you have extra barriers to get over, particularly overseas. People often shocked when they do visit us as not what they're expecting, seeing the operation and the clients we work for. Quite a lot of manufacturers are similar.

I needed some oil cooler parts, my local garage gave me directions to a place under a flyover. No signs on the door but really busy. Apparently they sell all over the world. No need for a website as everyone in the trade knows who they are. As the others have said, the best suppliers are kept secret.

From cash and carry for regular shops and there's normally 10/20% mark up for you but the odd item you might make a bit more. The MOQ is small too as in one pack or carton of something or alternatively whatever item it is you specifically want you can message that brand directly and they'll either sell to you wholesale themselves or tell you who their main distributers are. For foods you could probably get MOQ at a few grand but electronics may require 1 container or lorry.
