Wholesale Query

As a Ground Investigator providing a specialist service, I don't have much knowledge of businesses purchasing for resale.

However, I have just discovered that I qualify for individual ( ie non business ) membership enabling me to make personal purchases from a wholesale company.

So I don't understand what defines a wholesale company. Wholesalers seem to be restricted in terms of who they can sell to.
But why do individuals working as teachers or engineers or architects qualify as those allowed to purchase from wholesalers?

Can any of you shed any light on this?

Thanks for reading this.

The rules are about as loose as they get. You just need to fill in their form and be a bit vague as to why you want membership.

We have a classic car club with zero need to have a Costco account but they still let us have a card.

Wholesalers can sell to whomever they like. Sometimes, manufacturers will restrict them from selling, for example, to the public but anyone can call themselves a wholesaler. Some companies have both a retail and a wholesale division.

As for why you, sounds like a gimmick. Maybe they're hoping whatever company you work for will like their products and open a wholesale account.

All of these could be classed as 'trades' or 'commercial' - not the public. So they can buy at wholesale prices. General public would have to pay full retail as they're not a commercial contract.

It differs between wholesalers and the products they sell of course.

Not sure I would class Costco as a wholesaler.
Maybe not but if you are near one with a fuel station (or travel regularly near one) that covers the yearly membership

Diesel is £146.9 in ours today and is just off M4 J11 - if nothing else when it opened the local supermarkets dropped their prices to close suddenly overnight (but are still a bit more expensive)
