Who uses gumtree?

Hey

Who uses gumtree.com? I have recently started using it to find work. I mail responses to jobs that are related to my line of work (flyer design, print etc) and i find myself getting work most times when i spend time pricing up the users job and then include a discount at the end of the message.

Im just wondering if anybody else does this and if theres any tips you can give me?:)

Hi Andy

I've had some success using it but you have to keep updating your ads and adding news ones. I wouldn't bother going for the paid ad option. The main reason I use Gumtree is because the ads usually rank well in Google. However they rarely stay ranking well for long, they're usually indexed pretty quickly and sometimes even appear on page 1 for a search within an hour, but after 12 hours or so they're nowhere to be seen.

This can be pretty useful if you're selling something that a current "hot topic".

Yeah thats true, is it any good for link building?Correct me if i'm wrong as imn posting 1 unique advert every day, with links back to my website.

if you keep doing that youe email will get banned soon, like mine did, lol

and i find the place is full of spam - no good for finding accommodation at all!

definitely would advise ppl to be careful on that site

I agree with monkeyclap and Gabi it is a spam free site, I have used it before to find a flat/house it was good until they bomb you with a completly different price but I got it for the price they advertised for.

As for posting a add each day I am suprised you havent been banned by I.P. As for paid add it does not help I have tried that option, I post a add normally twice a week and come of lucky some times with a few jobs.

Kind Regards,

I place a few ads on every now and again.

Had a call of one guy but it was a bit of a weird call, i thought it might have been someone from gumtree posing as a potential customer in the hope that i might think it would be worth paying for a better ad.

It used to be really good but it's not so good anymore imo.
There are a lot of spammers from the site.
If you have an account with them for job posting, their credit control is useless and it took them 7-8 months to sort out our account issues.
In fact, now we're still trying to resolve an issue with a June invoice as they charged us for jobs posted on the other cities which should be free. (Charge only for London job postings).
Response is ok but again not as good as it used to be.

I've used it and I have known people who have advertised for people from abroad to come and work for them. The response is mixed depending on what you are looking for. The main problem I have found is the spam I recieved from people trying to sell me things.

U.S. Free Ads is a site I have used and never had any spam. I use noble samuria to research the best keywords to target so that the ads rank high with google. I have found it an effective method of marketing for myself and my clients.

As well as incoming links you do get people clicking through the ads. Using Noble Samuria just for this is sacrilage. It is probably the best S.E.O. software I have ever used. Well worth a look.

I've used it every now and again, but again spammers have put me off it ... also as with many 'free' sites, the usual google adverts at top put me off from going through it - I'd rather pay and the site be Google AdWords free.

It isn't bad for free things, but you there are a lot of spam on there. In regrds to work, I have advertised jobs on there before and had a masssive response of CV's, but it appears that the job stays on there for ever as I posted it 6 months ago and am still getting replies from it.
