It would seem that the advice given yesterday was not entirely clear - I have a retail store and for all intents and purposes have to close (which I have!) on looking at the documents provided by the Gov Email service this morning it gives a list of retail stores that can remain open.. I list below :-

    ________________________________________________________________________________________________________
    Quote:
Supermarkets and other food shops, health shops, pharmacies including non-dispensing pharmacies, petrol stations, bicycle shops, home and hardware shops, laundrettes and dry cleaners, bicycle shops, garages, car rentals, pet shops, corner shops, newsagents, post offices, and Banks.

Funny that bicycle shops are mentioned twice -must have been penned by Boris :)

I am (or was) a copy shop, we provide services for print Leaflets, Takeaway Menus, Builders Plans etc and we also retail Ink and Toner Cartridges in our local town of Trowbridge in Wiltshire. I have been here in the store on my own which is how I normally operate as I don't have staff and people have already been phoning and knocking on the door this morning.

Anybody know what the definition of a "Home and Hardware" shop is? or where I can go to get clarification?

Cheers business people - hopefully this won't last long?

    Andy.

I have just managed to get clarification as to opening etc. The store itself has to close, people can still come and collect completed jobs when they go out to do shopping etc, they are just not allowed into the store. It is advised that where possible peoples orders and goods would be shipped via mail order - got this from Gov Source finally.

My mate has a print shop, he's still working. People send work by email and he delivers to their door. It's working well for him.

Can I point out that B&Q, Wickes and Homebase, while allowed to be open, are all closed to customers and in B&Q's case they are operating like an Argos in that you request what you want at the door and a staff member fetches it for you.

They are still working, but not working as proper stores and instead are doing click and collect, online selling only.

Might I suggest that you put a notice on your store door with an email address and phone number and think about creating a solution to allow customers to contact you and supply orders for you to fulfill in a "closed doors" situation that can be posted out to them via a delivery company.
