Hi guys

I'm on the verge of setting up an internet shop mainly selling virtual goods i.e. venue tickets for local events, discount vouchers for local business etc.
I have the domain name, the site and now i need a merchant account and payment gateaway.

So what does everyone recommend?

At the moment i am looking at PayPoint as they seem to be well priced and also offer an "all in" service i.e. merchant account with an added payment gateway which is very attractive!!
Am i getting this right? £15 a month plus 25p per transaction? and a £75 set up?

And i am also looking at WorldPay. They do seem a bit more expensive but they have been round for a long time so maybe alot more reliable, better customer service etc? i dont know.

Or should i go for HSBC Merchant Account (£200 set up, £20 a month plus what ever they charge per transaction) and then another company for payment gateaways? This methods seems to be more expensive and more hassle? :(

p.s. i definatly dont want to use PayPal! Even tho they are great and easy an everyone uses them, they scream out amature and doessn't look professional IMO.

please help!

thank you in advance
Tony

None of the above look very attractive to me. You need to look at the following:

Monthly fee for payment gateway
How many free transactions are included
Fees per additional transactions
Charge per debit card
Charge per credit card

There is no need to be paying a setup fee in this day and age. I think a company on here called totalwebsolututions does a good deal on the gateways http://payments.totalwebsolutions.com/

Hi,

We can assist with the payment gateway side of things. £18 per month with no hidden charges, set up costs, charges for add-ons etc 350 free transactions are included per month and each additional transaction only costs 9.9 p therafter. We include a free virtual terminal, personal account manager and we can asssist you in the application for a merchant account (I can have someone contact you today if you wish to discuss this). We also give 100% of profits to charity.

Feel free to get in touch.

Thank you. We can certainly provide you with a Payment Gateway and can assist you with obtaining an Internet Merchant Account as we have direct contacts within the merchant services departments of several banks.

For a merchant needing 3D Secure and Virtual Terminal who is doing 300 transactions or less a month it is just £15 per month. If you go over 300 transactions in a month it is just 10p per transaction. We charge no setup fee and unlike some other providers we do not charge for declined transactions. We also provide a free anti-fraud mechanism and transaction reporting/statistics as standard.

We have been providing payment processing services for the past 6 years and have been PCI accredited since PCI DSS was first introduced. Previous to this we were AIS accredited. We have been trading as a business critical solutions provider since 1995 so have many years of experience in this industry. We operate dedicated Sales and Support teams who will be able to assist you setting up and be there for your right the way through your time with us. Quite a few of our customers have been with us for many years, because of the level of customer service and support we are able to offer to each of our customers.

For full details of service click the link in my signature or drop me a PM and I will be happy to contact you and answer any questions you may have.

check beforehand whether or not the people you end up working with will hold back a fraud deposit (10% upwards) or even retain your income for up to 8 weeks on a rolling deferral to protect themselves. When I went to PayPoint they didn't say anything about this until I had agreed to go ahead, they even hiked up the rates and then when I baulked they dropped them down again. I walked away and stuck with PayPal because you don't get any of that milarky with them.

This is a good point but in our experience the acquiring banks we work with will always be upfront with our customers and advise them at the time of the quote if there is to be any security deposit required or indeed deferred settlement. We will always operate on standard settlement - 3-5 days for most cards (Amex and Maestro can be longer) - it would be the bank that extended these terms if they felt it necessary (if the business was high risk etc).

Hi Tony,

Roughly you would be looking at 1-3% for Credit Cards and a nominal fee (25-40p) for Debit Cards. I say roughly as each quote is given to a merchant based on individual criteria such as nature of the business, business plan, turnover estimate etc. I would say the majority of our clients start at 2% but then after 12 months (or even 6 months in some cases) you will be able to get a rate review from the acquiring bank.

Most banks will charge a setup fee but as someone has pointed out you can get this waivered going through Streamline with FSB membership. You can also get reduced processing rates doing this so if you want to look at joining the FSB do let me know as we are an official referral partner for them.

If you would like me to get you a no obligation quote with either Barclays, HSBC or Streamline simply complete our online form or give me a call and I will complete it for you. You do not have to bank with any of these acquirers, but you will need to have a business account in place before they can quote you.

Thanks,

Simon

Hi Tony

Thank you very much for considering us - I've dropped you a PM on this.

For anyone who needs more information about deferred settlement and rolling reserves, we have an FAQ page on getting paid. If there’s anything else you need please respond to this thread or PM me.

Cheers
Rochelle

Hello, I use AlertPay or CashX.
They both have affiliate programs and tools. CashX has Prepaid Card (Mastercard).

How Does It Work?
All you have to do is sign people with your custom referral URL or your Affiliate Tool links found on your back office. Once they have signed up under your custom link, they will be in your downline! You can view your downline, and earnings at any time in your back office.

How Do You Earn?
Each time someone in your downline deposits money into their CashX account, you will earn $0.15! This happens every time that person deposits money! are added to your account in realtime! If you refer Bill, and he deposits $20 to his CashX account, will will earn $0.15. As you can see, if you have a large and active downline, you will be earning on a regular basis!
AlertPay. Up to 10th refferal, AlertPay pays you $5 and after 10th referral, you will be paid $10.00 USD a referral.
