Which name should I choose?

Hi Dave,

If I had to be honest from a branding point of view I would personally avoid the domain name NetBoom.

It's worth bearing in mid from an SEO point of view if you want to rank for web design related keywords it's best to have an optimised domain name, e.g. web-design-manchester.co.uk.

However if you're more concerned about building your brand then a domain relating to your company would be preferable.

Try looking at other companies to see what names they are using, this will give you a feel for what is popular in the market.

I hope this helps you? :)

Lucia.I-com beat me to it.

I was going to say something similar. Web design is a massively competitive area especially online and for key search terms.

Getting a domain with your keywords in it is one of the best things you can do for yourself.

So I would recommend purchasing 2 domains.

One will be your keyword filled domain, eg, www[dot]webdesignplacename[dot]com and you host site on this domain.
(sorry cant post URLs until I have hit 15 posts on here hence that url is in that format!)

The second would be whatever brand name you choose (of the 2 you listed, I would prefer Netboom but personally not overly attracted to either) and it just points or re-directs to your site.

I definitely wouldnt recommend putting the same site up on 2 separate domains though - Google is not keen on duplicate content and can slap you down for it.

My comments would be the same as a couple of others on here regarding a keyword rich domain name. You will get far more out of it in terms of SEO for your new website than one of the ones you have suggested, which really don't tell anyone anything about what you do.

Stand out from the crowd a bit with a keyword rich domain name - Google will help by highlighting the keywords when someone searches on them. It makes sense to use everything at your disposal to make a difference!

Net boom immediately reminded me of marine fishing - there is a company that makes huge equipment for the fishing industry with a similar name, so ... I would be very cautious before using this name.

Worth taking the time to do some serious research and narrow it down as much as you can. Consider using your area, ie North London, as you are more likely to get web design tacked onto it in a way that is unique. You will also attract local searches more easily.

What wrong with 'daveweb'?

Or maybe splangerdump. It's memorable and if the web design thing doesn't work out you can use it for whatever you like.

You aren't going to achieve anything usful with a domain name of web-design-xxx because everybody else is already doing this.

Be different.

But not netboom or netogic.
