Which Making Tax digital for VAT / Accounting is best for a small business?

I am VAT registered I have very few transactions - probably 30 in total in the year. I keep my accounts on a spreadsheet which I give to my accountant every year.

Can anyone recommend me a MTD software, I sent my last return for quarter ending March 2022 online filling in the form but now I need to send it via the software.

Also can anyone recommend a simple accounting package they use as I suspect many will say time to move on from Spreadsheets!

I use Accounts Portal. Inexpensive and fairly easy to use.

Like you I don't have many transactions so I import the bank statements. It doesn't take long to process those.

Setting up MTD is straightforward if you follow the steps on Accounts Portal. You will already have a Gov gateway account if you have been using the old system, but make sure you have your Co reg number and Co UTR to hand.

It's probably not worth you paying for it but if you bank with NatWest, RBS, Ulster bank or Mettle FreeAgent is free, it's very good and works well.

Do also ask your accountant - they may be able to recommend something and pass on a discount on some good software.
